Their main demand then was a federal law, known as the Central Protection Act (CPA), to protect doctors and medical staff at their workplace. Several doctors work in the capital New Delhi, but they say things are much worse at remote health care centers. The survey had 1,566 responses from doctors, nurses and other medical staff across the country. Protests by medical staff in Kolkata earlier this year lasted for weeks following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. The Supreme Court of India opened a case on the Kolkata trainee doctor’s rape and murder and formed a national task force to recommend measures to improve security at hospitals.

As an employment lawyer of 15 years, here are my tips for employees to overcome four hurdles in the accommodation request process. Don't wait for your specialistAfter an accommodation is requested, employers may ask the employee's medical provider to fill out an accommodation request detailing the underlying impairment, the restrictions it imposes, and the requested accommodation. It may be useful for the disabled employee to prepare their own accommodation request and present it for their doctor's review. Now we see it's very common for these store cards to charge over 30%." Just before the Fed began its rate-cutting cycle in September, many retailers and their bank partners raised interest rates on their store cards to protect their profits when the federal funds rate — which determines their own interest rates — came down. Now, the average interest rate on a store card is at an all-time high just ahead of the holiday shopping season, which is when most consumers sign up for store cards. That was less than half of the interest rate increase for store cards seen from September 2023 to September 2024, when the federal funds rate didn't budge. When asked why they increased the APR on their store cards, the companies that returned CNBC's request for comment pointed vaguely to industry standards and the current economic environment.

The interest rate outlook will come back into focus next week with key inflation data and Federal Reserve meeting minutes coming out ahead of Thanksgiving, as investors wrap up a major month for markets following President-elect Donald Trump's election victory. The October personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index set to release Wednesday could dent already-dimming hopes for a December rate cut if it comes in hotter than expected. The inflation rate is expected to have increased 0.2% month over month and 2.3% year on year. Rosy expectations Even with the interest rate cut expectations coming in, investors are optimistic on the direction for stocks to close out the year and into 2025. Goldman Sachs' David Kostin this week said he expects the S & P 500 can end next year at 6,500.

It's a "no-brainer" for "anyone in their 20s," says Eustache Clerveaux, a certified financial planner and senior analyst at Hudson Financial Group. This includes Roth 401(k)s. But for younger workers who don't have access to a workplace plan, a Roth IRA can be a great way to start building wealth. Like a 401(k), Roth IRA contributions benefit from compound interest, where your money and its returns grow together over time. Younger investors are less likely to hit Roth IRA income limitsOne key reason to start investing in your 20s is that you're more likely to qualify for a Roth IRA. This makes it an ideal time to pay taxes upfront on Roth IRA contributions.

It's also going to help Amazon design future Trainium chips and contribute to building out an Amazon AI model development platform called AWS Neuron. It may be a coincidence that the celebrity look-alike competition returned to prominence just as American citizens were voting in what some called “the most significant presidential election in our lifetimes.” But once it happened, the appeal was obvious. Here was a different kind of democratic event: a totally insignificant one, in which attractive men with slightly off-kilter features were lined up in public and ranked by the roaring crowd. At the first contest, which convened a flock of Timothée Chalamet doubles in Manhattan last month, the New York Police Department showed up, deemed it an “unscheduled demonstration” and arrested four people. They are typically publicized with posters on lampposts, staged in public parks and accompanied by meager prizes. The Mescal double won 20 euro “or three pints”; the White winner received $50 and a pack of Marlboro Reds.

They see me as a threat to their power.”The episode has raised eyebrows among security officials, who point to Gabbard’s history of unusual relationships overseas. The circumstances that led to Gabbard’s inclusion on Quiet Skies may be entirely benign, these sources said. Under normal circumstances, one official said, Gabbard would be forced to explain the underlying foreign travel or contacts in question during her background check. Security officials from multiple agencies told CNN that the program is known inside the government for having far laxer standards for inclusion. “TSA’s Quiet Skies program is a risk-based, automated approach to transportation security, to include identifying potential risks and applying enhanced security measures.”The statement continued: “TSA’s Quiet Skies program is not a terrorist watchlist.

I first met Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in 2022, when she was running what was widely seen as a long-shot Democratic campaign for Congress in a solidly Republican, heavily rural part of Washington State. Shortly before the election, the polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight estimated her chance of victory at a mere 2 percent. Gluesenkamp Perez, whose father immigrated from Mexico, ran an auto shop with her husband and lived in a house they’d built themselves. Gluesenkamp Perez voted to scrap Joe Biden’s plan for student debt relief. In a largely brutal year for Democrats, Gluesenkamp Perez, again facing Kent, won re-election even as Trump once again carried her district.
