PARIS — President Emmanuel Macron celebrated his country’s success at the Olympics and turned the tables on Jimmy Fallon, who hosted Sunday night’s closing ceremony. Speaking with NBC News at the presidential palace in Paris on Sunday, Macron expressed optimism about the potential for the global community to “do great things” together. LAS VEGAS — At the largest hacker conference in the world this week, some turned out for a rare overtly partisan event: a fundraiser for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Organizers said the “Hackers for Harris” event, held late Thursday afternoon in a convention center bar at DEF CON, brought in more than $150,000 in pledged donations — a small amount compared to Harris’ recent hauls, but the largest political fundraiser in the conference’s 31-year-history. But memories weren’t enough for one British tourist, who was caught this week engraving the initials of himself and his family into one of the city’s 2,000-year-old houses. Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79CE and is now one of Italy's most popular -- and most fragile -- tourist sites. However in June, when a tourist from Kazakhstan was caught carving his initials on the House of the Ceii in the ancient city, Pompeii’s director Gabriel Zuchtriegel said that the tourist would have to pay for the restoration of the wall. A lesser charge for defacing heritage sites can impose fines between 10,000 to 40,000 euros. In 2022, an Australian tourist even rode a moped around the ancient site.

UNESCO's World Heritage Committee named a site in the Gaza Strip — Saint Hilarion Monastery, or Tell Umm Amer — to both its "World Heritage" and "World Heritage In Danger" lists in late July.
