Joey Graceffa, a YouTuber known for his vlogs and lifestyle videos, shared that he was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma. Recently, Graceffa said he noticed the mark had scabbed over and a doctor conducted a skin biopsy and determined it was cancer. The American Cancer Society describes basal cell carcinoma as the “most common type of skin cancer.” The cancer “usually develop[s] on sun-exposed areas, especially the face, head, neck, and arms,” the ACS says on its website. “Police violence hasn’t stopped,” said Sirry Alang, professor of Black communities and social determinants of health at the University of Pittsburgh. And in the decade since, data shows there has not been an increase in charges brought against officers. Philip Stinson, a professor of criminal justice at Bowling Green State University, has tracked cases of police officers charged with murder or manslaughter resulting from on-duty shootings since 2005. Data is aggregated from publicly accessible media sources and reviewed by Campaign Zero’s researchers. The database shows that documented police killings have steadily increased in recent years.

Previously, running shoes were “flats” designed with a less-is-more approach. Carbon-plated supershoes from various brands are now worn by your average runners chasing personal records at major marathons around the world. Since the Vaporfly’s debut in 2016, runners have shattered world records, including achieving a sub-two-hour marathon. Up to this point, wealth management businesses have only facilitated trades if customers specifically requested exposure to these new spot crypto funds. Of Morgan Stanley's $1.5 trillion in assets under management, the bank disclosed in a May 13F filing that it held around $270 million in spot bitcoin ETFs. The expectation is that other wirehouses and asset managers, who have been on the sidelines performing in-house due diligence on spot crypto ETFs, might feel the pressure to soon follow Morgan Stanley's lead. The spot ether ETFs, which launched less than three weeks ago, have seen relatively tepid flows compared to the blockbuster launch of spot bitcoin ETFs in January. The bitcoin funds collectively hold $54.30 billion in assets under management, versus $7.25 billion across the spot ether funds.

The Italian fashion house's alcohol-free fragrance mist for dogs, which costs £83 ($105) on its U.K. website, is inspired by Fefé, the pet dog of brand-owner Domenico Dolce. However, the fragrance has drawn some concern from animal welfare organizations and experts who warn that perfumes can interfere with a dog's sense of smell. Oils such as ylang ylang which is included in Fefé, can also have a positive effect, he said. RSPCA's Potter also noted that some "lightly-scented products," which do not use aversive scents or interfere with a dog's sense of smell, can have a calming effect.

Wednesday’s pretrial hearing, which has been scheduled for months, followed a whiplash decision by Austin to revoke a plea deal that had been announced just two days prior last week. “What he did was illegal,” Eugene Fidell, who teaches military justice at Yale University and co-founded the National Institute of Military Justice, told CNN. But Sowards argued Wednesday that by revoking the deal, Austin was actually doing more harm to the families. While the terms of the pretrial agreement had not been released publicly, among them was the assurance that the detainees would answer questions by 9/11 victim family members. Sowards said family members had already “been submitting questions in good faith,” and expecting answers in return as part of the deal.

Jamie Dimon says he still sees a recession on the horizon

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Wednesday he still believes that the odds of a "soft landing" for the U.S. economy are around 35% to 40%, making recession the most likely scenario in his mind. When CNBC's Leslie Picker asked Dimon if he had changed his view from February that markets were too optimistic on recession risks, he said the odds were "about the same" as his earlier call. Dimon, leader of the biggest U.S. bank by assets and one of the most respected voices on Wall Street, has warned of an economic "hurricane" since 2022. But the economy has held up better than he expected, and Dimon said Wednesday that while credit-card borrower defaults are rising, America is not in a recession right now. "I'm fully optimistic that if we have a mild recession, even a harder one, we would be okay.

The U.S. lawsuits filed in DC Superior Court Monday shine a spotlight on the supply chains of some U.S. companies operating in the Mexican avocado industry. Reuters could not independently verify the accounts from the local residents or Climate Rights International’s findings. “They have even gone to destroy avocado orchards,” said Claudia Alejandra Sanchez, an activist for Michoacán’s Purepecha Indigenous people. Reuters reviewed copies of letters shared by Climate Rights International. Most of those companies have publicly pledged to adhere to sustainable supply chains in compliance with local laws.

Olympic organizers made a big bet in holding the 2024 Paris Olympics surfing competition at an ominous location in French Polynesia nearly 10,000 miles from Paris, with pretty much no space for spectators. Despite reef-inflicted injuries and moments when the location was questioned as just too dangerous, it would be hard to conclude Teahupo'o didn't provide its own golden moments. The U.S.' John John Florence, the world's top-ranked professional surfer, was eliminated in the third round by Australia's Jack Robinson, who took silver. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, has chosen Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota as her running mate, elevating a former football coach whose rural roots, liberal policies and buzzy takedowns of former President Donald J. Trump have recently put him on the map. Mr. Walz, 60, emerged from a field of candidates who had better name recognition and more politically advantageous home states. Minnesota is not a top-tier presidential battleground and is unlikely to prove critical to a Harris-Walz victory. “One of the things that stood out to me about Tim is how his convictions on fighting for middle class families run deep,” Ms. Harris said in a social media post confirming his selection.

Carnochan has been my therapist for over a decade, a privilege for which I am grateful on two accounts. First, the surging national demand for therapy has so outstripped supply that it can be hard to find a good therapist anywhere, but especially in San Francisco. Second, working with Carnochan has been so healing that I have come to see psychotherapy as a beautiful profession and Carnochan as its beau idéal — deeply learned, emotionally present and capable of moving in a single conversation from D. W. Winnicott’s theory of the false self to Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay,” from infinity in the Lotus Sutra to the ecstasies of backcountry skiing. I knew Carnochan did some other form of talking to people one on one — coaching, that is — because I once told him that I worried about money and career. Carnochan responded by mentioning that he sometimes helped company executives on professional matters and could work with me in the same spirit.
