Here's how I plan my day to boost focus, feel happier and get more done:1. Many people prefer to begin their day with rote work (tasks that are repetitive and don't require much brain energy) before diving into harder work. I save the hardest tasks for my peak focus time. Your peak focus time is impacted by your natural circadian rhythm. My peak time is around 11:00 a.m., so I start my day a few hours earlier by looking at news headlines.

But it's home to more than 60% of Fortune 500 companies, the state says, including Google parent company Alphabet, Amazon, CVS Health, and CNBC parent company Comcast. One of Delaware's major advantages is its Court of Chancery, which is a separate court system specifically for handling corporate cases. "It's a misnomer that Delaware is a tax haven for corporations," said Gigi Tewari, assistant professor at Widener University Delaware Law School. "So many people believe that, I should incorporate my business in Delaware because I'm going to save so much on corporate tax. Actually, Delaware is on the higher end for corporate tax."
A team of scientists with the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have conducted the first assessment of marine heatwaves along North America's continental shelves. Surface heatwaves can be picked up by satellites and can result in huge algal blooms. It found that while sometimes a marine heatwave can hit both the sea surface and ocean bottom at the same time, bottom heatwaves can also occur on their own. Marine heatwaves have become about 50% more frequent over the past decade. Past bottom marine heatwaves have decimated Pacific cod and snow crab populations.
The Justice Department hasn't released its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's death. Gloria Allred, who represents 20 Epstein victims, asked the DOJ inspector general for answers. "Many of Mr. Epstein's victims question how and why the system failed to prevent the death of Jeffrey Epstein," Allred wrote in the letter. Horowitz launched an investigation into the circumstances of Epstein's death soon after he was found dead in his jail cell. "It is unfair that the victims of Jeffrey Epstein continue to be denied the knowledge of the conditions which existed at MCC that led to Mr. Epstein's death," Allred wrote.
Jeffrey Epstein's death in a federal jail was seen as a shocking Justice Department failure. But more than three years later, the office still hasn't released its report into the circumstances of Epstein's death. "We all took it by surprise," Mark Epstein told Insider. Barr tasked the Justice Department's inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and the FBI with investigating "the circumstances of Mr. Epstein's death." Mark Epstein told Insider that he spoke to his brother about once a month in the years before his death.

Harris was speaking about the Biden administration's climate policies at the Aspen Ideas conference in Miami. Speaking about her time in the Senate, Harris recalled the "heat" she took after an exchange she had with a Trump appointee about climate change during a confirmation hearing. Methane is the main component of natural gas, so captured emissions can be sold as fuel. The energy sector accounts for about 40% of all methane emissions from human activity, second to agriculture. Dozens of oil companies have also voluntarily committed to reduce emissions through the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership, and the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative. Altogether, the coal industry was responsible for about 40 million tonnes of methane emissions in 2022. Coal-related methane emissions in China are equivalent to total CO2 emissions from the whole of sub-Saharan Africa," Gould said.

REUTERS/Rodrigo GarridoFeb 15 (Reuters) - A third inquiry into the death of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda 50 years ago could shed new light on whether he was poisoned by political enemies, as alleged by some of his family. Rodolfo Reyes, a Neruda nephew, reiterated this week claims that his uncle - a member of the Communist party and the most important Chilean intellectual of the time - was poisoned. Previous tests have found no evidence Neruda, winner of the Nobel Prize for literature in 1971, was poisoned. LAHORE, Pakistan Feb 14 (Reuters) - Pakistanis are queuing for hours to grab coffee and pastries from Canadian chain Tim Hortons, which opened its first outlet in the South Asian country this week just as its economic crisis took a turn for the worse. McDonald's (MCD.N), Retail Food Group (RFG.AX)-owned Gloria Jean's Coffee and Yum Brands Inc (YUM.N)-owned Pizza Hut are among the international brands with outlets in Pakistan. The richest Black mothers and their babies are twice as likely to die as the richest white mothers and their babies. Yet there is one group that doesn’t gain the same protection from being rich, the study finds: Black mothers and babies. The researchers found that maternal mortality rates were just as high among the highest-income Black women as among low-income white women. The richest Black women have infant mortality rates at about the same level as the poorest white women. Generally, rates for Hispanic mothers and Asian mothers track more closely with those of white mothers than Black mothers.
Hilaria Baldwin and Alec Baldwin speak for the first time regarding the accidental shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and wounded director Joel Souza on the set of the film "Rust", on October 30, 2021 in Manchester, Vermont. Alec Baldwin is being sued by family members of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed on the set of the movie "Rust." Baldwin, an actor known for his roles in "The Departed" and "The Hunt for Red October," is also a producer of "Rust." Last February, Hutchins' widower, Matthew Hutchins, sued Baldwin for wrongful death, months after Hutchins was killed in October 2021. That lawsuit, which accused Baldwin and others of reckless conduct that led to the tragedy, was settled in October last year.
Baldwin in October settled a separate wrongful-death lawsuit brought by Hutchins' husband Matt Hutchins over the fatal shooting on a film set outside Santa Fe. Under Matt Hutchins' settlement with Baldwin and the producers of 'Rust', filming of the movie was set to resume in early 2023 with Hutchins serving as executive producer, Baldwin remaining in the lead role of 'Harland Rust', and Souza directing. At the time, Matt Hutchins said he had no interest in attributing blame to Baldwin or the 'Rust' producers for the fatal shooting, and called his wife's death "a terrible accident". In a 2021 television interview Baldwin said Hutchins directed him where to point the gun and to cock it. "I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger, that was the training that I had," Baldwin told ABC News.
The risk comes when a lake overfills, bursting through its natural barrier and sending a torrent of water rushing down mountain valleys. In the high mountains of Asia, some 9 million people live near more than 2,000 glacial lakes. "The impacts are already visible as the glacier is thinning and retreating," said Farooq Azam, a glaciologist at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore who monitors Chhota Shigri. During the same time period, Himalayan glacial lakes increased by about 9% in number, and 14% in area. More than 200 lakes now pose a very high hazard to Himalayan communities, according to 2022 research.

The East Anatolian Fault is a strike-slip fault.
Ron DeSantis after his administration blocked the teaching of an Advanced Placement course on African American studies. J.B. Pritzker is urging the College Board not to appease DeSantis, a likely 2024 Republican presidential candidate, and alter the course curriculum. DeSantis’ administration rejected the AP African American studies program in a letter this month to the College Board, which oversees AP classes. Pritzker meanwhile said that Illinois expects any AP course focused on African American studies "to include a factual accounting of history, including the role played by black queer Americans." The College Board said Tuesday it would release a new framework for the AP course, which it said has been under development since March.
WASHINGTON — Civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump is expected to announce Wednesday that he intends to sue Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over his administration's decision to block a new Advanced Placement course on African American studies from being taught in high schools. DeSantis' administration rejected the AP's African American studies program in a letter this month to the College Board, which oversees AP classes. On Tuesday, The College Board said it would release a new framework for the AP course, which it said has been under development since March. “We are glad the College Board has recognized that the originally submitted course curriculum is problematic, and we are encouraged to see the College Board express a willingness to amend,” Alex Lanfranconi, a spokesperson for the agency, said in a statement.

Coral reefs were turned to rubble and many fish perished or migrated away. Following the eruption, the Tongan government said it would seek $240 million for recovery, including improving food security. SILENT REEFSThe vast majority of Tongan territory is ocean, with its exclusive economic zone extending across nearly 700,000 square kilometres (270,271 square miles) of water. It is likely volcanic ash smothered many reefs, depriving fish of feeding areas and spawning beds. While volcanic eruptions on land eject mostly ash and sulfur dioxide, underwater volcanos jettison far more water.

In her book “Attention Span: A Groundbreaking Way to Restore Balance, Happiness and Productivity,” Mark explains how decades of research have tracked the decline of the ability to focus. “In 2004, we measured the average attention on a screen to be 2½ minutes,” Mark said. “In fact, our research shows it takes 25 minutes, 26 seconds, before we go back to the original working sphere or project,” Mark said. “And then you go back and pick up the original interrupted project,” Mark said. For over 25 minutes, you’re actually working on other things.”(At least I can tell my boss that when I miss my deadline.)
