Nurses at two facilities within Mount Sinai's health care system tentatively agreed to contracts Sunday, according to an announcement from the New York State Nurses Association, the largest union representing registered nurses in the state, but negotiations continued at its flagship hospital. ADELAIDE, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Daniil Medvedev reached the Adelaide International 1 quarter-finals with a 6-0 6-3 win over Miomir Kecmanovic on Wednesday, moving a step closer to a potential semi-final showdown with Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open warm-up event. Former U.S. Open champion Medvedev was pushed hard in the previous round by Lorenzo Sonego, saving nine set points before winning the first set, but had an easier time of it against Serbian Kecmanovic, the world number 29. Miomir is a tough opponent, a high-ranked player, so there are no easy guys left in Adelaide," Medvedev said. "I'm not sure there were (any easy opponents) from the first round, so I'm happy to be through, happy with my level." Up next for world number seven Medvedev is a meeting with compatriot and eighth seed Karen Khachanov, who beat Briton Jack Draper 6-4 6-2.

Epic Games, the developer and publisher of the video game Fornite, will pay $520 million in fines to settle with the FTC over violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Epic will pay two fines, including a $245 million fine against Fortnite's in-game store and refund systems, and another $275 million fine to address child privacy concerns. Despite the deliberate decision to market to children, the FTC said Epic failed to "cure," or address, COPPA violations. "All the while, kids have been bullied, threatened, and harassed, including sexually, through Fortnite," the FTC complaint read. Only in 2019, "long after Epic obtained empirical evidence pointing to large numbers of Fortnite players" under the age of 13, did Epic introduce an age verification system.

Images showed a tall plume of tiny drops of toilet water being blasted into the air. Scientists have known for some time that tiny, invisible drops of water escape the toilet bowl after each flush. A cloud of smaller drops, called aerosols, floats further through the air, carrying the toilet water across the lab. A side-by-side view of the effect shows that these water drops are invisible to the naked eye. But the evidence doesn't show definitively that toilet water spritzing into the air has caused anyone to get sick.
LONDON, Nov 21 (Reuters) - European traders are rushing to fill tanks in the region with Russian diesel before an EU ban begins in February, as alternative sources remain limited. The European Union will ban Russian oil product imports, on which it relies heavily for its diesel, by Feb. 5. Part of the influx comes as ICE Futures Europe bans low-sulphur gasoil of Russian origin ahead of EU sanctions. Russian gasoil can still arrive in ARA storage tanks in December, but it must be moved to other tanks from which no delivery can be made, according to ICE. In January 2022, 70,000 tonnes of gasoil were delivered through the Ice gasoil futures exchange's website shows.

Federal authorities have charged seven Chinese nationals over an alleged long-running harassment campaign to try and intimidate a U.S. resident into returning to China. “The United States will firmly counter such outrageous violations of national sovereignty and prosecute individuals who act as illegal agents of foreign states,” he added. Surveillance footage showed Guanyang An, left, and Weidong Yuan visited the victim's residence and took photographs of it, according to the indictment. “That same government sent agents to the United States to harass, threaten, and forcibly return them to the People’s Republic of China,” he added. In 2020, federal prosecutors arrested five people accused of trying to coerce Chinese citizens to go home.
The crew of a US Navy aircraft carrier recently discovered jet fuel contaminating the water supply. In doing this, the crew has to physically connect the ship's potable water system to its fuel oil system through piping. Aligning the potable water system and the fuel system involves opening valves that are normally locked shut in order to allow the two systems to connect. The fuel system is supposed to be depressurized, and the potable system should be pressurized. "Normally, if you flush out your fuel oil tanks — or your fuel oil system, any part of your fuel oil system — you should be watching for this problem, because you've connected the two systems.
