A woman in Kentucky who is seeking an abortion filed a lawsuit Tuesday that seeks to strike down the state’s near total ban. The suit, filed by a woman referred to in the documents as Mary Poe, alleges that two Kentucky abortion laws violate the state Constitution’s rights to privacy and self-determination. “I feel overwhelmed and frustrated that I cannot access abortion care here in my own state, and I have started the difficult process of arranging to get care in another state where it’s legal. Poe’s lawsuit is also requesting class-action status for all pregnant people in Kentucky who are seeking access to abortion in the state but are not allowed to receive the medical treatment because of the abortion laws. Hawaii is the only US state without any fluoride in municipal taps; fluoridated water is only available there on military bases. Rumors have circulated that drinking fluoridated water can lead to bone cancer (osteosarcoma), but long-term studies from both the UK and US haven't found any credible evidence of higher rates in areas where people drink fluoridated water. Their review concluded that some studies of fluoride consumption have found links between higher fluoride water levels and lower IQs in kids.

A Dutch court on Tuesday ruled to dismiss a landmark climate ruling against Shell , after the oil giant was ordered to drastically reduce its global carbon emissions back in 2021. In May 2021, The Hague district court ruled that Shell must reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 45% from 2019 levels by 2030. Shell's lawyers said demands for companies to curb greenhouse gas emissions could not be made by courts, but only by governments, Reuters reported. The company also said the court ruling would force it to shrink its business without any benefit to the fight against climate change. The burning of coal, oil and gas is by far the largest contributor to the climate crisis, accounting for more than three-quarters of global greenhouse gas emissions.

At Wisp, which offers two types of emergency contraception online, sales of those medications went up about 1,000% in just one day after Tuesday’s election. “We are seeing women actually stockpile emergency contraception pills,” Cepak said. “When you attack one piece of reproductive health care, it really has a ripple effect,” Friedrich-Karnik said. “People who need abortion care often also at some point need contraception, and people who need contraception might eventually need maternal health care,” she said. “People’s lives are fluid like that, and this care is fluid, and you can’t attack one piece of reproductive health care without really impacting the whole range of care that people need.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams asked a judge on Monday to set an earlier trial date in his federal corruption case next year, arguing the current date would impede Adams’ participation in his mayoral reelection campaign, according to court documents. In a letter to the court, Adams’ lawyer, Alex Spiro, requested the trial to begin weeks earlier on April 1, rather than later that month. He added that the prosecution will “cast a cloud” over Adams’ campaign until it’s resolved by a New York jury at trial. Adams pledged to fight the charges and stay on as mayor. “This was a multiyear scheme to buy favor with a single New York City politician on the rise,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said at a news conference in September.

The three-way fight to replace outgoing Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., pits Senate Minority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., against Sen. John Cornyn, a former McConnell deputy, and underdog candidate Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. “It’s a loud online presence that doesn’t ultimately add up to votes in the Senate,” said one Senate Republican aide, who requested anonymity to speak candidly about the race’s dynamics.
