The Justice Department revealed an indictment Friday charging a Florida man with threatening to kill his political opponent in 2021. William Robert Braddock III, 41, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was charged with threatening two people, one of whom the DOJ said was his primary opponent in the 2022 election for Florida’s 13th Congressional District. Braddock allegedly threatened to “call up my Russian-Ukrainian hit squad” and make the primary opponent disappear, according to the indictment. A Florida court in 2021 granted Luna and a conservative activist and friend of hers, Erin Olszewski, a temporary restraining order. The case is part of the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force, convened in 2021 to address threats targeting election workers.

As federal investigations swirled around Eric Adams over the past year, the New York City mayor stuck to a familiar script. In one instance, an unidentified Adams staffer agreed to an interview with FBI agents. Authorities are investigating the second incident in a month in which a Jewish student attending the University of Pittsburgh was attacked, possibly motivated by the victim’s religion. The FBI, which is currently assisting University of Pittsburgh Police, said it has opened its own investigation. According to university police, the student was walking off campus early Friday morning when a group of six to eight men assaulted the unidentified victim. A bystander intervened and ended the assault,” Pittsburgh University Police said in a news release in which it described the incident as a “Hate Crime/Assault.”The student’s condition was not immediately clear. Friday’s attack follows an Aug. 29 incident at Pitt in which two Jewish students were attacked by a man wielding a glass bottle.

CNN —US federal prosecutors on Friday unsealed criminal charges against three Iranian government-linked hackers in connection with a hacking operation aimed at Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Masoud Jalili, Seyyed Ali Aghamiri and Yasar (Yaser) Balaghi are accused of aggravated identity theft and wire fraud for their hacking efforts on behalf of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Separately, the US Treasury Department on Friday imposed sanctions on seven people as part of a sweeping response to Iranian efforts “to influence or interfere” in the 2020 and 2024 US presidential elections. The alleged Iranian hack threw a twist in the presidential campaign in August when multiple news outlets reported receiving emails from a pseudonymous email account peddling documents stolen from the Trump campaign. The hacking operation began in June, when the alleged IRGC-linked hackers targeted longtime Trump ally Roger Stone and used access to his email account to target campaign staff.

According to the notice, the caller's questioning was "likely trying to bate the Senator into commenting on a political candidate." A former Orange County, New York, prosecutor accused of accepting bribery payments died in an apparent suicide at his home as federal agents arrived to arrest him, sources familiar with the matter told NBC New York.
