In today’s edition, we examine how Donald Trump is making baseless claims of "election interference" as he faces federal charges himself. Trump casts 'election interference' label on everything while facing federal chargesFormer President Donald Trump has never stopped propagating falsehoods that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. This year, Trump and his campaign have cited more than a dozen examples of so-called election interference activities by Americans to claim the coming election is being unfairly manipulated. The latest instance came after the judge overseeing his federal election interference case in Washington released a redacted filing from special counsel Jack Smith. “The Democrat Party is guilty of the Worst Election Interference in American History,” Trump wrote Wednesday on social media.

In reality, a federal judge, not Smith, made the decision to release that filing to the public. After hearing opposition from Trump's team about the redactions Smith's team suggested, Chutkan reviewed the brief and ultimately decided that the redactions were appropriate. Chuck Rosenberg, a Justice Department veteran and NBC News legal analyst, said Smith's team was doing things by the book. Litigating that case is an obligation of the Smith team and not a violation of Justice Department guidelines," Rosenberg said. "In any event, the Smith team properly sealed its filing.

Los Angeles (AP) — Prosecutors in Los Angeles are reviewing new evidence in the case of Erik and Lyle Menendez to determine whether they should be serving life sentences for killing their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 35 years ago, the city’s district attorney said Thursday. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said during a news conference that attorneys for Erik Menendez, 53, and his 56-year-old brother, Lyle Menendez, have asked a court to vacate their conviction. Gascón said there is no question the brothers committed the murders, but that his office will be reviewing new evidence and will make a decision on whether it warrants a resentencing. The new evidence presented in a petition includes a letter written by Erik Menendez that his attorneys say corroborates the allegations that he was sexually abused by his father. Cliff Gardner, an attorney for the brothers, said they are pleased by the district attorney’s decision.

They mentioned the National Guard officer but referred to him only as “the soldier,” a camper or “nice guy,” according to the criminal complaint. They tried taking Uber to court for a jury trial, but an appellate court recently ruled they can’t because they previously agreed to Uber’s updated terms and conditions requiring arbitration, which are the same in the Uber Eats and Uber ride app. The McGinty’s attorneys told CNN they’re reviewing the decision and will “likely” petition the New Jersey Supreme Court. WASHINGTON — Kamala Harris is launching a seven-figure ad blitz about health care targeting Donald Trump’s calls to replace the Affordable Care Act with a mystery plan he hasn’t yet released. And the Harris campaign said it plans to follow it up with more health care-focused ads in the future. Asked when he will release his health care plan, the Trump campaign didn’t say. Health care was a major boon to Democrats in the 2018 and 2020 elections, according to exit polls, which said many voters prioritized health care and preferred Democrats over the GOP by wide margins. A recent Associated Press national survey found that voters trust Harris to handle health care over Trump by 50% to 30%.

The central clash in the pivotal Senate race in Montana — and the fight for control of the Senate itself — was on full display Monday night as Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Republican Tim Sheehy faced off in a heated debate. Like other vulnerable Senate Democrats, Tester tried to make it personal — touting his bipartisan bona fides, highlighting his own connections to his red-leaning state and suggesting his opponent cannot be trusted. Montana is the party’s next top target, with Tester running for re-election in a state Trump won by 16 points in 2020. James Richmond, 50, an IT consultant and voter in Helena, pointed to those comments in explaining why he plans to support Sheehy, despite supporting Tester’s work for veterans. Vice presidential nominees traditionally play the role of attack dog for the top of their tickets – in this case, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump. Walz earned the Democratic vice presidential nod in part because of his branding of the GOP ticket as “weird” in television interviews that served as semi-auditions for the role. Vance and Trump, meanwhile, have at times struggled to get on the same page on the issue of abortion. Walz could play the part Biden once did in a debate against another rising young conservative, when the then-vice president stymied Mitt Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan in a crucial 2012 debate. CNN —A Georgia judge has struck down the state’s six-week abortion ban, declaring it unconstitutional. In a ruling issued on Monday, Judge Robert McBurney said Georgia’s Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act, or LIFE Act, infringes on a woman’s state constitutional rights. When originally signed into law, the LIFE Act criminalized most abortions after an embryo generates detectable cardiac activity, typically around six weeks into a pregnancy. When the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 and ended a national right to abortion, it opened the door for state bans. Democrats argue such deaths were a predictable outcome of laws that took effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Such scrutiny is the product of diet culture, the influences and messages that affect how we eat, based on cultural pressure to attain an ideal body type, experts say. And with increasing changes in access to food, exercise and health care, people’s weight is becoming more out of their individual control, she added. A 2019 meta-analysis showed that more than 80% of weight loss is regained after five years. One idea is that diet culture keeps a check on power. New York City Mayor Eric Adams will step into a Manhattan courtroom and into the history books on Friday when he is arraigned on federal corruption and bribery charges that could force him out of office. Adams is the first sitting New York City mayor to be indicted on criminal charges in the modern era. “This was a multiyear scheme to buy favor with a single New York City politician on the rise,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said Thursday. Adams' indictment capped two weeks of turmoil in his administration, a period during which Banks, the city’s police commissioner, and the city's top lawyer, have announced their resignations. “You could almost picture them trying to cobble this together and try to tell a story so that they could say, ‘corruption, corruption’ at a press conference,” Spiro said at a Thursday press conference.
