The nearly 40 lots from Presley include a jacket designed by the man behind his famous jumpsuit and cape, a well-loved briefcase, and an address book filled with his handwriting, expected to bring in over $10,000. The address book featured "the people that he really was closest with and connected the most with," said Kruse GWS auctions founder and lead auctioneer Brigitte Kruse. "We actually have some of his personal notes (in the book), which we're going to leave as a surprise for the winning bidder." Commercial success doesn’t always lead to recognition on the Hollywood awards circuit, but several of 2022’s biggest box-office hits are up for the most prestigious trophy at the 95th Academy Awards. “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” are the two top-grossing films at domestic box offices among all titles released in 2022, according to Box Office Mojo. Both received a best-picture nomination Tuesday. Biopic “Elvis” is also up for the award and ranks 11th in lifetime grosses among 2022 releases.

As with castmates Michelle Yeoh, nominated for best actress, and Ke Huy Quan, nominated for best supporting actor, Stephanie Hsu’s name drew particular applause during her category’s announcement. Notably, after Campion became just the third woman to ever win best director at last year’s ceremony, not a single female director was nominated this time around. Overall, the lesbian power-trip flick made a lesser showing than the Daniels’ queer kung-fu film. But its six nominations included spots in the evening’s biggest categories, including best picture, best cinematography, best original screenplay and, predictably, best actress. But an Oscar for best actor would be the ultimate prize in what has been a victorious comeback tour for the former heartthrob, following his decadelong, virtual exodus from Hollywood.
