Major earnings reports and economic data will be in focus next week as investors seek clarity on how the Federal Reserve will proceed from here. But next week will bring the lion's share of results including reports from mega-cap darlings Alphabet, Amazon , Meta Platforms and Microsoft . While the S & P 500 is higher by 10% in 2023, the equal-weighted index is down slightly. Of note, Tesla shares sank more than 9% on Thursday following a pessimistic economic outlook from CEO Elon Musk during the company's earnings call. Its the S & P 500's first weekly loss in three weeks.

For decades, the nation has been roiled by hyperinflation, sky-high interest rates, a growing mountain of debt, a string of sovereign defaults, and a cratering exchange rate. Rampant inflation has ravaged Argentina's currency over the years, wiping out much of its value against the dollar and ruining its appeal to consumers. The coveted bucks from the back alleys of Buenos Aires have their own price, even their own name: dólar blue, or the "blue dollar." CNBC's Jim Cramer said investors should understand Wall Street jargon, including terms like correction, rotation and execution. Cramer said a correction can occur when the market, or just an individual stock, has been roaring, but then suddenly sees a steep decline. Lastly, Cramer explained the term execution, which refers to a company's ability to follow through with its plans. Cramer recommended paying up for what he calls "best of breed" stocks, or companies with leadership that have proven their abilities. "Don't be afraid of rotations and corrections; don't be intimidated by people who use the words," he said.

We've reached the end of an era for the Chinese economy. Unless dramatic action is taken, the future of China's economy is looking less like a young dynamo and more like an old, slow-moving blob. A faltering Chinese economy will suppress demand for commodities like oil seeds and grain, hitting US farmers especially hard. For the US economy, China as a workshop is much more important than China as a consumer. Now that China's economic supercycle is over, that may be the cycle we're about to witness.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A woman awaiting trial in the killing of professional cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson tried to run from officers escorting her to a doctor appointment Wednesday, authorities said. Two corrections officers had taken Kaitlin Armstrong to the appointment and were escorting her back to a patrol vehicle “when she ran," Travis County Sheriff spokeswoman Kristen Dark said. Armstrong ran more than a block into a neighborhood, but she could be seen by deputies the entire time before she was caught, Dark said. Armstrong and the two officers were taken to a hospital for a brief examination after the incident, and Armstrong was later returned to jail. Authorities have said Armstrong tried to change her appearance and used several aliases as she moved around Costa Rica while attempting to establish herself up as a yoga instructor in that country.

The lawsuit accuses prison officials of placing inmates into confinement based on secret evidence, leaving them unable to challenge their placement. A number of lawsuits nationally have targeted the conditions of solitary confinement, saying that the treatment of incarcerated people there has led to psychiatric episodes of self-mutilation and death due to lack of adequate care. The lawsuit asks the court to end the use of secret evidence and solitary confinement for mental health patients. But mental health treatment in the prison is “grossly inadequate” and Maldonado's time in solitary confinement caused insomnia, anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation, his lawyers said. Maldonado was prescribed an antidepressant, but was also taunted as being weak by others in solitary confinement, who can hear visits from mental health staff.
