WASHINGTON — A group of Democratic senators are sounding the alarm over T-Mobile's proposal to acquire most of US Cellular, and asking the Justice Department and the Federal Communications Commission to closely scrutinize and consider challenging the deal. The $4.4 billion deal announced in May 2024 would allow T-Mobile to use part U.S. Cellular's wireless spectrum to improve its coverage in rural areas and give it access to four million new customers. Under the agreement, U.S. Cellular would retain 70% of its wireless spectrum and towers, leasing space on other towers to T-Mobile. In Monday's letter, the lawmakers also ask the Justice Department to consider unwinding that merger, arguing that it cost customers of competing wireless carriers billions of dollars. A spokesperson for T-Mobile did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter from CNBC.

It was because I knew that working in Big Tech in Silicon Valley would change me into a different person and I'd never move back. It's been 11 years since then, and I think I've gotten happier with my life here now that I've worked at a few different jobs in Big Tech. But despite this, working in the US suits me better than working in India because of my individualistic mindset. Some people back home think very competitively — they've hinted that they think I'm just plain lucky, and if they had the opportunity, they'd do it too and much better. Even if I had all the resources to go back to India, it'd be different — I've grown apart from who I was.

CNN —General Min Aung Hlaing, leader of Myanmar’s military junta, became the country’s interim president on Monday after figurehead leader Myint Swe was placed on medical leave, state media reported. “The Interim President’s Office has sent a letter to the State Administration Council Office notifying it to delegate the responsibilities,” government broadcaster MRTV said Monday, referring to the junta council that governs Myanmar, which is chaired by Hlaing. On Friday, the state-owned Global New Light of Myanmar reported that 73-year-old Swe has been suffering from “psychomotor retardation” and “malnutrition” since early 2023. The junta first promised to hold elections within two years after seizing power – a deadline that has been repeatedly extended. At least 18.6 million people in Myanmar today need urgent humanitarian assistance, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Independents and movable voters: Harris split political independents about evenly with Trump, 43% said they supported her and 40% Trump. Biden, however, trailed Trump by 10 points among that same group of independent voters, 44% Trump to 34% Biden. While these voters split 39% Trump to 37% Biden, Harris had considerably more support with this group, which broke in her favor 47% Harris to 34% Trump. Among women of color, Harris outperformed Biden by 10 points: 63% of women of color said they backed Harris over Trump, compared with 53% who said the same about Biden. Among voters younger than 35, 42% backed Harris to 41% for Trump, compared with 47% Trump to 41% Biden among that same group.
