Modelo and Corona brewer Constellation Brands is a tale of two businesses. Constellation Brands Why we own it : Constellation Brands' beer franchise, which includes popular Mexican brands Modelo, Corona and Pacifico, is the growth engine and by far the most attractive part of the business. And, the profitability of its beer business — operating margins were an impressive 42.6% in the quarter — puts Constellation in a position of strength. Still, raising an anchor is always welcome news, and talk of its booming beer business would, at last, no longer need the wine-and-spirits caveat. Looking ahead, its beer business should continue grabbing market share and its hard to imagine the wine-and-spirits unit getting much worse.

Soon, Daily Harvest had narrowed its internal investigation to a new ingredient used for its high-protein content: tara flour. Tara flour is one of two products made from the seed pods of a thorny shrub native to Peru. The pods of the tara plant are used to make tara gum and tara flour. As some consumers had discovered, tara flour was not safe, the FDA decreed in May 2024 — nearly two years after the ingredient sickened hundreds. During that time, however, other manufacturers could have used the now-“unapproved food additive.”“This incident shows how broken our food regulatory system is.

Amazon's Rufus AI chatbot answers questions about products and recommends items. The new chatbot illustrates Amazon's complicated relationship with copycat items: The company forbids selling counterfeit or illegally replicated products on its platform. Amazon has warehouses full of products that don't have brand names that people would immediately recognize but might be similar to those brands' products. In theory, Rufus should be able to help — AI should help people compare similar items and answer questions about them. For now, Amazon's Rufus probably won't.

Carlos Tavares, chief executive officer of Stellantis NV, speaks during a news conference at the Fiat automobile manufacturing plant in Kragujevac, Serbia, on Monday, July 22, 2024. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares on Thursday left the door open for possible cuts to its dividend and share buybacks next year and brushed off problems with its U.S. business that led to a major profit warning this week as a "small operational error". "When you are in a context which is brutal and more demanding, if you make a small operational error, well it is immediately visible," he said, adding he was taking it as a "wake up call" and very seriously. While Stellantis is committed to its 2024 dividend, Tavares said it was too early to confirm next year's plan. "The time for 2025 has not come, we will see what will happen at the end of 2024 for a discussion and a decision for 2025," he said.

All of Stellantis’ brands except for its niche Fiat unit experienced sales declines in the third quarter, led by more than 40% reductions for Chrysler and Dodge. U.K. financial regulators hit British digital lender Starling Bank with a £29 million ($38.5 million) fine over failings related to its financial crime prevention systems. In a statement on Wednesday, London's Financial Conduct Authority said it had fined Starling "for financial crime failings related to its financial sanctions screening." Starling also repeatedly breached a requirement not to open accounts for high-risk customers, the FCA said. Since then, Starling has reported multiple potential breaches of financial sanctions to relevant authorities, according to the British regulator. The FCA said that Starling has already established programs to remediate the breaches it identified and to enhance its wider financial crime control framework.

That said, everyone seemed to agree that the days of logo-forward purchases and other conspicuous signs of wealth are over — even on Wall Street. The industry's movers and shakers are still into name brands but are leaning into those that exude "quiet luxury." And where there are celebrities and influencers, there tend to be Wall Street dealmakers. It's not surprising that high-earners on Wall Street would have second homes (or, in many cases, multiple). The HamptonsThe beach towns of the Hamptons have long been a Wall Street favorite thanks to their proximity to Manhattan.
