AdvertisementThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Kayleigh Summers, founder of The Birth Trauma Mama. I don't remember anything about giving birth to my son, Callahan. Callahan was quickly resuscitated, but my heart stopped againWhile doctors were delivering Callahan, another team was working on me. Many, many people who have an amniotic fluid embolism don't survive, and I was just so happy to be alive. Not all trauma looks like mine, but all birth trauma can have an impact on parenting.

CNN —The tumultuous 2024 election is ending with a contrast that encapsulates America’s fateful choice on election eve. The vice president also proposes reforms to improve the lives of working Americans — but hers are less revolutionary than Trump’s. If she loses Pennsylvania, Harris would need a combination of other swing states, including Georgia, Nevada and Arizona, where poll averages also show no clear leader. But the findings, which suggested a shift toward Harris from the previous Iowa Poll in September, also showed the vice president with a strong advantage among women. If such a pattern is repeated nationwide, the vice president could be headed to victory if she can limit her deficit to Trump among White males especially.

Specifically, he warned about traders taking the 10-year Treasury yield , a bond market benchmark, above 5% — a level it hasn't seen since mid-2007. To be sure, there are myriad reasons why the bond market has been in a state of tumult since mid-September, political considerations of a second Trump term being just one of them. "The bond market could easily nullify the impacts of another rate cut. That's because the bond market believes the Fed is cutting rates by too much, too soon, and is therefore raising long-term inflation expectations. It could carry "higher tariffs and mass deportations, which triggers stagflation in the US including a second inflation spike," the bank said.

A Florida bail bondsman allegedly targeted incarcerated female inmates and offered them bond in exchange for sex, the state's attorney general said. Moncrief, the owner of Moncrief Bail Bonds in multiple Florida counties, allegedly offered to bond out the women "in exchange for sex." He also offered to bail out inmates "in exchange for sex from someone outside of jail" and allegedly sold women he bonded out to other buyers, Moody's office said. Authorities learned of Moncrief's scheme while investigating former defense attorney John Gillespie for committing similar crimes, the attorney general said. Victims of Gillespie told investigators they had also been forced to perform sex acts with Moncrief, the office said.

Next week's presidential election could have a big impact on municipal bonds, according to Morgan Stanley. In that case, the federal tax exemption becomes worth more, said Dan Close, head of municipals at Nuveen. However, studies have shown a move of just a couple percentage points "doesn't really move the needle" for muni demand, Brandon said. The TCJA increased the AMT exemption and raised the income level at which the exemption would phase out. That's because banks and insurance companies in the U.S. own about a quarter of all outstanding muni bonds, he explained.

Loading chart...LONDON — U.K. borrowing costs posted two days of gains right after the Labour government unveiled a huge package of borrowing and tax rises in its Wednesday budget — but analysts downplayed the possibility of a second "mini-budget" crisis in the British bond market. The 10-year gilt yield , representing medium-term borrowing costs for the government, was slightly lower on the day at 11:20 a.m. London time. Yields move inversely to prices, so higher yields represent a sell-off in bonds — and an aversion to funding U.K. debt. The incident sent bond yields soaring so rapidly, they threatened to destabilize pension funds. By contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris's tax plan is expected to increase tax revenues by $1.7 trillion over 10 years, but at a cost of negative 2% to long-run GDP and 786,000 jobs. The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania estimates that, including her spending proposals, the primary deficits would increase by $1.2 trillion, and accounting for adverse economic feedback effects, primary deficits increase to $2 trillion. Higher deficits and higher debts, just with different paths to get there. One candidate proposes cutting taxes to improve economic activity but increase deficits, and the other proposes raising taxes and increasing spending by even more and growing deficits. If the deficit keeps increasing faster than our economy grows, so will the debt, inflation, and interest rates.
