STOCKHOLM, Oct 9 (Reuters) - American economic historian Claudia Goldin won the 2023 Nobel economics prize for her work examining wage inequality between men and women, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said on Monday. "This year's Laureate in the Economic Sciences, Claudia Goldin, provided the first comprehensive account of women's earnings and labour market participation through the centuries," the prize-giving body said in a statement. Goldin, who in 1990 became the first woman to be tenured at the Harvard economics department, is only the third woman to win the Nobel economics prize. European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova has received a formal invitation to the summit, the spokesperson said, adding: "We are now reflecting on potential EU participation." However, the Financial Times reported that British government officials favour a less "draconian" approach to AI regulation than the EU. Last month, Clifford told Reuters he hoped the summit would set the tone for future international debates on AI regulation. While a number of world leaders, including U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, are expected to attend the summit, it largely remains unknown who else has been invited -- or who has accepted an invitation.

☆ Swiss National Bank to expand liquidity provision to banks

ZURICH, Sept 21 (Reuters) - The Swiss National Bank will provide funds secured against mortgages to all commercial banks, expanding liquidity provision to the sector, Vice Chairman Martin Schlegel said on Thursday. To take advantage of the support, which had previously only been available to systemically important banks, lenders must be able to transfer the mortgages to the central bank. The greater the number of banks that take the preparatory steps necessary to use the new possibility of obtaining liquidity, the greater will be the central bank's room for manoeuvre in time of need, Schlegel said. Earlier this month, Switzerland's central bank was criticised for being too restrictive in a report by a group of experts, including bankers and academics, formed in the wake of Credit Suisse's collapse. Schlegel said, by expanding the ways the country's banks can tap liquidity, the central bank was not lowering its standards.

Environmental groups slammed Elon Musk's X app, formerly known as Twitter, in a report Wednesday ranking social media platforms on their approach to climate change misinformation. Before Musk bought Twitter last year, the app said it banned advertisements that "contradict the scientific consensus on climate change." In a statement responding to the climate scorecard, YouTube said: "Our climate change policy explicitly prohibits the monetization of content that denies the existence of climate change, as well as ads that promote these claims. Debate or discussions of climate change topics, including around public policy or research, is allowed, but when content crosses the line to climate change denial, we stop showing ads on those videos. In general, our systems also don't recommend or prominently surface content that includes climate change misinformation."
