A magazine editor told CNN his team struggled to review the huge volume of articles generated by AI. Employees at a small sci-fi and fantasy publication say new AI-powered tools are making their jobs harder. He said his team's workloads had almost doubled and they'd struggled to review a stream of "consistently bad" AI-generated content. However, AI-powered tools come with various issues, including a tendency to invent or "hallucinate" facts. Technology publication CNET was forced to issue a string of corrections on several articles after errors were discovered in its AI-generated articles.

These wins are poised to threaten GOP competitiveness in key states like Georgia and Wisconsin in 2024 and beyond. And Biden won Athens-Clarke with a whopping 70%-28% victory, posting a nearly 22,000-vote margin over Trump. In 2016, Trump won Wisconsin by less than 1 percent of the vote. In 2000, Gore won Wisconsin by less than 6,000 votes (48.8%-48.6%) and won Dane by nearly 67,000 votes (61%-33%) over Bush. “In the next few years, the main impact of AI on work will be to help people do their jobs more efficiently,” Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said in a blog post recently. Big Tech companies are now rushing to jump on the AI bandwagon, pledging significant investments into new AI-powered tools that promise to streamline work. News outlet CNET had to issue “substantial” corrections earlier this year after experimenting with using an AI tool to write stories. Others like Clarke, the publisher, have tried to combat the fallout from the rise of AI by relying on more AI. “You listen to these AI experts, they go on about how these things are going to do amazing breakthroughs in different fields,” Clarke said.

But Kyiv says its forces are conducting counteroffensive actions in at least three areas and are operating against a backdrop of increased Russian offensive operations. So far Marvel’s TV series have taken different forms and explored a variety of issues. When I think about the show I think about it through the Nick Fury lens. What I really love is how different Fury is, how different the world is post Infinity Gauntlet and what that does to loyalty. Yeah that was such a genius flip from Marvel to have Fury [in “Spider-Man: Far From Home”] be Talos the entire time. Do you think Talos is too optimistic about the humans and the Skrull coexisting?

Putin said Ukraine's Storm Shadow missiles have caused some damage, but nothing "critical." The UK-supplied missiles have reportedly killed a key Russian general and hit other strategic targets. The UK's defense minister, Ben Wallace, last month described Storm Shadow missiles as having been accurate "almost without fault" in Ukraine. The Storm Shadow, also known as SCALP, is plane-launched and designed to fly low to evade detection. The UK announced in May that it was sending Ukraine an undisclosed number of Storm Shadow missiles.

The Justice Department said on Thursday that it was investigating the conditions at a jail in Fulton County, Ga., citing reports of violence, deteriorating surroundings and the death last year of an inmate who was covered in lice and feces. The civil investigation, part of a broader effort by the department to scrutinize conditions at jails and prisons across the country, will also examine whether officers used excessive force, the availability of medical care and the treatment of mentally ill prisoners. “Detention or incarceration in jail should not include exposure to unconstitutional living conditions that place lives in jeopardy or risk of serious harm from assaults,” Kristen Clarke, an assistant attorney general who leads the agency’s civil rights division, said in announcing the investigation. “Jail facilities must provide constitutional and humane conditions, in which all people can live safely while they go through the criminal process.”The Fulton County government and sheriff’s office said in a joint statement that they planned to cooperate fully.

Companies Us Justice Department FollowWASHINGTON, July 13 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department on Thursday launched a civil rights probe into conditions at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta, Georgia that will examine whether the facility is discriminating against incarcerated people with mental illnesses, a top department official said on Thursday. "The Fulton County Sheriff has acknowledged that the main jail is dilapidated and rapidly eroding," Clarke said. "The level of violence in the jails is deeply concerning, and at one point in 2022, the jails averaged more than one stabbing per day." Multiple Ukrainian and Russian sources say a top Russian general was killed by a Storm Shadow missile. A Ukrainian member of parliament, Yurii Mysyagin, attributed his death to the Storm Shadow missile, according to CNN. "The British 'Storm Shadow' came to visit accurately," the outlet reported Mysyagin as saying. But the Storm Shadow, also known as a SCALP missile, is fired from an aircraft and has a post-launch range of about 155 miles. An undisclosed quantity of Storm Shadow missiles was sent to Ukraine by the UK earlier this year, with France announcing on Tuesday that it would supply Ukraine with additional missiles.

REUTERS/Kim... Read moreLONDON/WASHINGTON, July 10 (Reuters) - When it comes to taking stock of global emissions, there's an elephant in the room: the world's armed forces. NATO, the 31-country Western security alliance, for example, told Reuters it has created a methodology for its members to report their military emissions. And Washington sent U.S. Army and Navy representatives to the COP27 climate summit in Egypt last year, the first time a Pentagon delegation has attended the global climate summit. Ukraine's environment ministry spokesperson said it supports the efforts and would seek backing from governments at COP28 for more transparent military emissions reporting. In the meantime, global military emissions will remain poorly understood, said Stuart Parkinson, executive director of the group Scientists for Global Responsibility.

Some women wanting to get fit are turning to VR headsets, one firm told The Washington Post. VR headsets have received mixed reviews from consumers amid "underwhelming" sales for some devices. Back then, VR headsets were mainly marketed to young men, but some women in their mid-thirties and older are now taking an interest in the gaming headsets, Cole told The Washington Post. In March, Meta announced it was slashing the price of its VR headsets after "underwhelming" sales. The science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke wrote that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic,” and today magic and technology are merging. He still prefers nondigital methods, though, which he attributes in no small part to the influence of Mr. Geller. Mr. Money-Coutts first met Mr. Geller in 2003. A student at the British prep school Eton who was a budding magician, he invited Mr. Geller to perform for 700 gobsmacked schoolboys. Mr. Geller had relocated to Britain by then, having spent 12 tumultuous years in the United States, most of them in New York City.

Now everything fits snugly. “I don’t have to be disappointed with a too-big shirt,” he said.

German data show British firms opened 170 foreign direct investment projects in Europe's biggest economy last year as companies sought a foothold in the bloc's single market. That's a far cry from the 50 enquiries from British firms - rather than projects committed - recorded by German Trade & Invest in 2015, the year before the Brexit referendum. Pro-Brexit economists say such data ignore the fact British corporate investment boomed in the years before mid-2016, and it was bound to slow. British firms are also waiting to hear how - or even if - London intends to compete with the enormous green energy and tech subsidies pitched by the United States and EU. At Farrat, the effects of Brexit are insidious, running beyond decisions over investments, said Farrell, describing a sense of unease felt towards British firms from potential foreign clients, worn down by years of political turmoil"People are nervous.

CNN —The new tallest building in Japan is here — and the gleaming skyscraper is part of an expansive “modern urban village” in central Tokyo, years in the making. That surpasses the Abeno Harukas skyscraper in Osaka, now Japan’s second tallest building at 300 meters (984 feet). The completion of the tower, announced on Monday, brings the sprawling Azabudai Hills complex one step closer to its scheduled opening in the fall. Other countries have meanwhile raced ahead, constructing ever-taller skylines — the Azabudai Hills skyscraper is still dwarfed by towers in New York, Taiwan and Dubai. At 390 meters (nearly 1,280 feet), Torch Tower will loom above Azabudai Hills when it completes in 2027.
