Every four years, the holiday season is a little more challenging for retailers as consumers get distracted by the selection of the next U.S. president. Citigroup analyst Paul Lejuez expects consumers will spend an average of 13% more this holiday season based on the findings of the bank's consumer survey. "Consumer wallets remain constrained, macro/geopolitical uncertainty persists and the shorter holiday season (five fewer days and Christmas on a Wednesday)," will weigh on spending, analyst Christopher Horvers said. Bitcoin hit a new record high last week, with prices climbing above $99,000 for the first time. CNBC asked analysts for their take on why bitcoin has so far failed to breach the widely-watched $100,000 mark. "There's a ton of leverage in the system right now," Novogratz, a longtime crypto investor, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Friday. Novogratz added that he's advocating investors buy "straight bitcoin" rather than bitcoin-exposed plays, such as MicroStrategy which owns a huge, multi-billion-dollar pile of bitcoin in its corporate treasury reserves. Deutsche Bank's Laboure said she thinks the idea of a U.S. national bitcoin is still far off, practically speaking.

Never before, lobbyists say, has the geographic center of power shifted so dramatically with the arrival of a new administration. By leveraging his access to Trump, Ballard Partners was able to compete with the old white-shoe lobbying firms that have been the industry's dominant players for decades. Corporate clients need lobbyists who appreciate that Trump is "disrupting the status quo in Washington," Sayfie, the Ballard lobbyist, says. Some major companies, lobbyists say, have been caught off guard by the rapid pace of Trump's transition moves. Those who bankroll his staff and travel before he takes office, lobbyists say, stand to build connections and curry favor with the once and future commander in chief.

There's one key reason the U.S. stock market rallied after this month's presidential election, and it wasn't necessarily because of the outcome, according to Dan Clifton of Strategas. AdvertisementI followed Ina Garten's recipes for pumpkin, apple, and pecan pie to see which I liked best. The pecan pie tasted like a cocktail, and the apple pie was shockingly simple to throw together. I ended up with extra pumpkin-pie filling, but Garten's buttery crust was the real winner. I sometimes struggle to create a buttery, flaky crust, and my fillings don't always have the right texture. Here's how my day of baking went as I attempted to make Garten's pecan, pumpkin, and apple pies.

[END TAPE]KRISTEN WELKER:According to the Washington Post, President-elect Trump plans to fire the team that worked with the special counsel. So, I think President Trump is picking reformers for these Cabinet positions. After the midterms Joe Biden said that there was no way President Trump would ever be back in the White House. He's going to sign some executive actions, but he's also going to then begin to roll out this plan. I also think he's going to face some skepticism by Republicans on using the military, for instance, going kind of into different states.

Doug Burgum, Trump's nominee for Secretary of the Interior and "energy czar," won praise from pro-housing advocates from both parties earlier this year when he made the case for denser, more walkable, mixed-use communities. Advertisement"He's been a champion of zoning reform and parking reform and transportation reform," Chuck Marohn, the founder of the urbanism nonprofit Strong Towns, told Business Insider. Doug Burgum — President-elect Donald Trump's pick to lead the US Department of Interior — reflects the growing bipartisanship around deregulating housing. At the same time, the housing shortage has begun to impact communities across the country rather than just large coastal metros. While Republicans use language about private property rights, free markets, and deregulation to make a case for YIMBY policies, Democrats talk about racial equity and environmental sustainability, Nolan Gray, research director for California YIMBY said.

Lina Khan, chair of the Federal Trade Commission, said her agency plans to investigate Microsoft for anticompetitive practices in the cloud market. A recent report from ProPublica found that the government itself might also have been a target of those anticompetitive practices. Microsoft offered the government access to its G5 security capabilities free for the first year as well as consultants to help install the products, ProPublica reported. The goal was to "spin the meter" for Azure and help it gain market dominance over its competitor, Amazon, a sales representative for Microsoft told ProPublica. They're trying to figure out what to do. They're trying to figure out what to do. Thanks to muscle memory from the tariffs Trump imposed in 2018, he says, many businesses are speeding up their shipping schedules — racing to get as many goods as possible into the country before any new tariffs are implemented. So did dryers, even though they weren't subject to tariffs — companies figured customers would assume that two related products were subject to the same inflationary forces. Laws sharply limit the roles that federal troops can fill in US law enforcement. National Guard troops that report to state governors can support law enforcement, but the Posse Comitatus Act bars active-duty and federalized Guardsmen from acting as law enforcement. Come 2025, you might find it's a tad easier to change jobs. If the job market doesn't strengthen as hoped, Zhao said some workers' frustrations over their 9-to-5 could rise. AdvertisementYet "if the job market heats up, then we'll likely see a wave of turnover as workers vote with their feet," Zhao said. Verizon has some 105,000 employees and typically fills about 20,000 jobs a year through a mix of internal and external candidates. "I don't think that it's going to be any easier to get the best of the best to work here," Schelling said.

Starbucks' airport location staff — and company technology — will be put to the test this week during some of the busiest travel days of the year. For the aviation industry, bottlenecks at airport Starbucks are just another sign of soaring demand and overcrowded airports. Starbucks opened its first airport location with licensee HMSHost in 1991 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which serves Starbucks' hometown.
