WASHINGTON — The Senate unanimously passed legislation Tuesday to boost Secret Service protection for presidential candidates, sending the bill to the White House for President Joe Biden's signature. The strong show of bipartisan support came days after the House passed the measure, known as the Enhanced Presidential Security Act, without any opposition in a 405-0 vote. The bill would give former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris the same level of protection provided to Biden. It comes the same month as an apparent second attempt to assassinate Trump.

TEMPE, Arizona — Police are investigating what appears to be gunfire damage overnight at a Democratic Party-coordinated campaign office for Vice President Kamala Harris. The office is shared by staff for the Arizona Democratic Party, the Harris campaign, and Senate and House campaigns, to boost turnout for the party in November. “Overnight, several shots were fired into our Tempe Democratic Party coordinated campaign office,” McEnerney said. The coordinated campaign office in Tempe is one of 18 field offices for the Harris campaign in Arizona, according to Patty Socarras, the state Democratic Party's communications director. Wegovy, the blockbuster weight loss treatment from Novo Nordisk , tops the list of drugs that could soon become part of the second round of price negotiations between manufacturers and Medicare. The Biden administration last month announced new negotiated prices for the first 10 Medicare Part D drugs selected for the talks. He also pushed back on Medicare price negotiations when asked about the potential selection of Wegovy and Ozempic, calling the talks "price-setting" that will have negative consequences for drug innovation. Medicare Part D doesn't cover weight loss treatments unless they are approved and prescribed for another health condition. An apology thought to be from singer Janet Jackson following a comment repeating misinformation about Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity wasn't actually made by her or authorized by her team. Elmasri claimed to be Jackson's manager, but representatives for the singer said her brother, Randy Jackson, is her only manager. Jackson told the interviewer that she "heard" Harris was Indian not Black. Jackson continued to push what she had "heard" despite the interviewer explaining Harris' father was a Black man. "Janet respects Harris’ dual heritage as both Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused," his statement said.
