Annual overdraft fee revenue in 2019 was an estimated $12.6 billion,” CFPB said. To the Editor:Re “Progressives Aren’t Liberal,” by Pamela Paul (column, Nov. 17):Ms. Paul bemoans the failure of labels to accurately describe what a person’s beliefs are, in this case liberals. Labels allow a labeler to define us without the heavy lifting of critical thinking that truly informs who and what we are. In the end, we should applaud the failure of labels and encourage a deeper understanding of one another. SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — The wife of a northwestern Iowa county supervisor was convicted Tuesday of a scheme to stuff the ballot box in her husband’s unsuccessful race for a Republican nomination to run for Congress in 2020. Woodbury County election officials became aware of possible voter fraud in September 2020, when two Iowa State University students from Sioux City requested absentee ballots, only to learn ballots had already been cast in their name. When processing absentee ballots on election night, election workers notified Gill that the handwriting on a number of them appeared to be similar. Most voter fraud cases involve one voter casting a single ballot in another person’s name, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Evans, who helped prosecute Taylor’s case. “Despite what’s in the media, voter fraud is extremely rare,” Evans said.

CNN —The first images of dozens of men trapped inside a collapsed Himalayan tunnel have emerged, as a complex and frustrating operation to free them enters its tenth day. Show us each person’s face.”The 41 trapped laborers have been receiving food, water and oxygen through the pipe after the entrance to the tunnel they were helping to build gave way on November 12. “Confidence of keeping the lives of the trapped workers safe has increased manifold,” said a statement released by state officials on Monday. Video shows a monitor showing the feed of a camera being sent down through a pipe installed into the tunnel. Authorities say they are exploring all options to reach the men, including reaching out for international help to teams involved in other complex rescues.

The scaled back package of bills known as the Reproductive Health Act will repeal regulations aimed at abortion providers, known as TRAP laws, that critics had said were designed to close abortion providers. Last November, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved a citizen-led ballot proposal — known as Prop 3 — that enshrined abortion rights in their state’s constitution. Whitsett, a Detroit Democrat, opposed the repeal of a state law that requires patients to wait 24 hours before receiving an abortion. A group of some of the state's top abortion right advocates slammed Whitsett in a statement after the package's passage. The organization has called restrictions on Medicaid coverage for abortion “de facto abortion bans” for people with low incomes.
