India's antitrust body has turned down a request from Apple to put a hold on an investigation report which found the company breached competition laws, allowing the case to continue, an internal order from the regulator seen by Reuters showed. The CCI internal order showed that Apple alleged in November that the main complainant in the antitrust investigation—the Indian non-profit Together We Fight Society (TWFS)—had not complied with the directives to give an assurance that the old investigation reports had been destroyed. Apple asked the CCI "to take action against TWFS for non-compliance with its order" and "to withhold the revised" report, the CCI order, dated Nov. 13, seen by Reuters showed. "Apple's request to hold the investigation report in abeyance was deemed untenable," the CCI said in the order. The CCI's senior officials will review the investigation report and make a final ruling on the case.

Don't share your job search journeyWhen you're job searching, I'd heavily advise against documenting your journey. There has been a surge of people on LinkedIn, sharing what it's like to apply for jobs in today's market. Sharing things about depression, or anxiety, might make an employer wonder, "How is that going to impact our business?" Don't share your résumé onlineOn LinkedIn, there's an option to share your résumé — and I wouldn't recommend doing that. The S & P 500's rise to fresh heights in the new year will not be in a straight line, according to RBC Capital Markets. Strategist Lori Calvasina issued a year-end 2025 target for the broad market index of 6,600. The S & P 500 has rallied 3.2% since Donald Trump secured a second presidential term, raising expectations of lower taxes and deregulation. To be sure, Calvasina thinks there will be 5%-10% correction in the near term before equities resume their march to all-time highs. Last week, Goldman Sachs set a 6,500 target for the S & P 500, while BMO issued a forecast for the benchmark index to surge all the way to 6,700 .

When it comes to fully remote work, Corcoran is still on the fence, she told iHeart's "Way Up With Angela Yee" podcast last month. "Whether people are more productive at home — I'm not sure I'm buying it as a boss," said Corcoran. At the same time, Corcoran said she understands the perspective of those who prefer to work from home. Workers were ushered into remote and hybrid work in 2020 following the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, flexible work models boost employee happiness and reduce attrition by 33%, a 2023 study found.

Cairo AP —At least 17 people are missing after a tourist yacht sank in the Red Sea following warnings about rough seas, Egyptian officials said Monday. The governor of the Red Sea region, Amr Hanafy, said rescuers saved 28 people from the vessel south of the coastal town of Marsa Alam, and some were airlifted to receive medical treatment. The governorate received a report shortly before dawn Monday of a distress call made from the yacht, which had left Marsa Alam for a five-day journey. But the Egyptian Meteorological Authority on Saturday warned about turbulence and high waves on the Red Sea and advised against maritime activity for Sunday and Monday. Many tourist companies have stopped or limited traveling on the Red Sea due to the dangers from conflicts in the region.

Bitcoin hit a new record high last week, with prices climbing above $99,000 for the first time. CNBC asked analysts for their take on why bitcoin has so far failed to breach the widely-watched $100,000 mark. "There's a ton of leverage in the system right now," Novogratz, a longtime crypto investor, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Friday. Novogratz added that he's advocating investors buy "straight bitcoin" rather than bitcoin-exposed plays, such as MicroStrategy which owns a huge, multi-billion-dollar pile of bitcoin in its corporate treasury reserves. Deutsche Bank's Laboure said she thinks the idea of a U.S. national bitcoin is still far off, practically speaking.

SINGAPORE — Singapore's headline inflation rate fell to 1.4% in October, down from September's figure of 2%, as the cost of cars dropped and rent prices rose at a slower pace. The consumer price index rise was also lower than the 1.8% that was expected among economists polled by Reuters. It marked the first time that Singapore's headline inflation rate fell below 2% since March 2021, when it came in at 1.3%. Singapore's core inflation rate, which strips out accommodation and private transport prices, came in at 2.1%, down from 2.8% in September and lower than the 2.5% expected in the Reuters poll. The Singapore dollar was trading at 1.34 against the U.S. dollar after the inflation reading, strengthening by 0.13%.

London CNN —Thyssenkrupp Steel has announced plans to eliminate 11,000 jobs by the end of this decade — about 40% of its workforce — becoming the latest German industrial giant to opt for drastic action to prop up its fortunes. “Increasingly, (global) overcapacity and the resulting rise in cheap imports, particularly from Asia, are placing a considerable strain on competitiveness,” Thyssenkrupp Steel said in a statement. Thyssenkrupp, Germany’s largest steel producer, joins the country’s biggest manufacturer Volkswagen in setting out a major overhaul to cut costs and bolster competitiveness. The German automaker also plans to close at least three factories in its home country and lay off tens of thousands of staff. “Locational weaknesses” include high energy costs, onerous red tape, and outdated physical and digital infrastructure.

The pecan pie tasted like a cocktail, and the apple pie was shockingly simple to throw together. I ended up with extra pumpkin-pie filling, but Garten's buttery crust was the real winner. I sometimes struggle to create a buttery, flaky crust, and my fillings don't always have the right texture. The artist and activist Nan Goldin makes no secret of her views about Israel and the wars in Gaza and Lebanon. She has signed high-profile protest letters calling Israel’s actions in Gaza “a genocide.” She has marched with pro-Palestinian protesters and was arrested at a demonstration in New York. In a magazine interview last year, she said she had “been on a cultural boycott of Israel for my whole life.”So a major exhibition of Goldin’s photo slide shows and films that opened over the weekend at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin seemed like a high-profile anomaly in Germany, where lawmakers have said that support for boycotting Israel is antisemitic, and where artists who have taken positions like Goldin’s have had museum shows canceled, prizes suspended and talks shut down.

A man walks past the People's Bank of China (PBOC) building on July 20, 2023 in Beijing, China. The People's Bank of China kept the medium-term lending facility rate unchanged at 2.0% on 900 billion yuan ($124.26 billion) worth of one-year loans to some financial institutions, according to the bank's official statement. Keeping the MLF rate intact allows for "greater policy maneuverability" given the change in U.S. administration, at a time when commercial banks' net-interest-margins have remained tight, Pang added. "A delayed reduction in the [MLF] lending rates" would also bolster the yuan against the stronger greenback, JLL's Pang added. Unlike the Fed's focus on a main interest rate, the PBOC uses a variety of rates to manage monetary policy.
