"So there is a gap of 350 to 400 basis points," he said, referencing the difference between credit and deposit growth. Annual figures from August put loan growth at 13.6% with deposit growth at 10.8%, according to Reuters. When lending outpaces deposits, net interest margins — or the difference between what a bank earns on loans and pays out for deposits — take a hit. The agency was commissioned within the Treasury Department, and the Secret Service was entirely focused on counterfeit money, a major problem of the day. Threatening presidents was not made a crime until 1917, the same year Congress approved Secret Service protection for the immediate family of a president. The Secret Service remained a part of the Treasury Department until 2003, when a massive government reorganization after the 9/11 terror attacks moved the Secret Service to the Department of Homeland Security. New York CNN —The Republican nominee for president went on live TV and presented an unhinged, debunked Facebook rumor as fact. Scrolling on Facebook or X, it’s hard not to see some of that chaos creeping into the mainstream. Just a few weeks ago, the former president posted an AI-generated image on his Truth Social platform that suggested Taylor Swift had endorsed him. Of course, it was a fake image — the same kind of obvious AI slop that has overrun Facebook and X. Either Trump didn’t know the image was fake, or he didn’t mind lying to his followers and perpetuating the fake endorsement.

Ryan Imperio was named the overall winner for his photograph capturing the progression of Baily’s beads during the 2023 annular eclipse, according to a Thursday statement from the Royal Observatory Greenwich, which runs the competition. “These are a challenge to capture due to their brevity and the precise timing needed.”Imperio said that he didn’t expect to win the competition. “The images selected each year are absolutely astonishing and I am both thrilled and honoured to have my photo among them,” he said in the statement.
