Amazon is instructing corporate staffers to spend five days a week in the office, CEO Andy Jassy wrote in a memo on Monday. The decision marks a significant shift from Amazon's earlier return-to-work stance, which required corporate workers to be in the office at least three days a week. Amazon's headcount totaled 1.53 million employees in the second quarter, representing growth of just 5% from a year earlier. If anything, the last 15 months we've been back in the office at least three days a week has strengthened our conviction about the benefits. Before the pandemic, not everybody was in the office five days a week, every week.

More than 4,000 people have descended here for the Future Proof conference , a vast social gathering designed to give younger registered investment advisors and other investment professionals access to what they want. What they want, apparently, is an intense desire to network with other RIAs and investment professionals and find ways to grow their business. Reimagining the financial conference Future Proof is the brainchild of Barry Ritholtz, co-founder, chairman, and chief investment officer of Ritholtz Wealth Management, and CEO Josh Brown. This is the third year for the conference, but Ritholtz and company have been doing conferences for 15 years. Ritholtz describes it as an ongoing project to reinvent the financial conference concept, which he says is "moribund."

The rule further tightens the requirement from last year that workers be on-site at least three days a week. And Meta's Mark Zuckerberg helped kick off the org-chart flattening trend when he criticized "managers managing managers" at the start of his "year of efficiency" in 2023. The asset manager surveyed 556 investors who completed a rollover to a Vanguard IRA in 2023 and left those assets in a money market fund through June 2024. watch nowDrugmakers are betting that delivering radiation directly to tumors will become the next big cancer breakthrough. That can allow the treatment to deliver radiation to cancer cells and spare the rest of the body from the level of damage that comes with many cancer drugs. For Pluvicto, patients come in once every six weeks for up to six treatments. One opportunity Bristol Myers Squibb sees is combining radiopharmaceuticals with existing cancer drugs like immunotherapy, said Robert Plenge, Bristol's chief research officer. Stouffer's is exiting the freezer aisle and taking on Kraft Heinz with its new shelf-stable mac and cheese. The average American consumer eats mac and cheese 22 times a year, trailing only pizza in its frequency, according to Moe. Out of those 22 occasions, the mac and cheese comes from a box about 70% of the time. To start, under the name Stouffer's Supreme, the brand will offer two variations on boxed mac and cheese: a classic cheddar and a three-cheese version made with cheddar, gouda and parmesan. Moe said the cheddar is a "sibling, not identical twin" of its frozen mac and cheese, while the three-cheese option is a "cousin."

Looking at a different measure, median real wages — wages adjusted for inflation — have barely budged, growing at just 0.8% over the last year, as of August 2024. With wage growth cooling, the gap between wages and inflation isn't expected to close until the second quarter of 2025, according to Bankrate's projections. Leisure and hospitality workers saw wage growth of 23.7%, which is above the overall average of 17.4%. In contrast, education workers have slipped further behind, with wage gains of only 13.6% over the past three years. The Fed is widely expected to announce its first interest rate cut in more than three years this week.

It's September – and that means it's prime time to think about maximizing after-tax returns as the year winds down. Of course, there may be a price to pay for that performance: Uncle Sam will want his share of taxes. Here are a few steps that could help you hold onto more of your portfolio's returns this year. Multiple Russian military aircraft, including fighter jets and bombers, were spotted last year with tires placed on top of them. While some observers suggested they might be meant to confuse image-matching weapons, others said they might be intended as shields. Russia has turned to several different deceptive practices during the war beyond placing tires on its aircraft. And Russia and Ukraine have both relied on decoy military equipment, such as inflatable tanks, wooden rocket launchers, and fake radar reflectors, among other weapons.
