The longtime elected coroner in Hinds County, Mississippi, who faced withering criticism last year for burying men in pauper's graves without notifying their families, is stepping down early. Sharon Grisham-Stewart, a Democrat, announced Monday that she would retire Dec. 31, three years before the end of her current term. The mother of one of those men, Jonathan Hankins, confronted Grisham-Stewart in February at the county's pauper's field. And the Justice Department stepped in, saying it would help authorities in Hinds County and Jackson improve their death notification procedures. Grisham-Stewart was first elected as Hinds County coroner in 1999 and last won re-election in 2023.

CEO Corie Barry is a no-nonsense heavyweight who mastered the supply chain for Best Buy during the pandemic. As the JPMorgan recent upgrade on Best Buy said, most investors don't realize how awful this period has been for Best Buy. It doesn't hurt, of course that Best Buy has a substantial dividend — 3.68%, down from 4% and 5% when we were buying it. The combination of Dish and DirecTV has been rumored for years and nearly happened in 2002 until it collapsed under regulatory pressure. The prospect of a future EchoStar bankruptcy and deal approval from creditors make the completion of a deal complicated. EchoStar has a total enterprise value of about $31 billion and a market capitalization of about $7.6 billion. Dish ended its last quarter with 6.1 million satellite subscribers and 2 million customers for Sling TV, Dish's over-the-internet package of linear networks. DirecTV has also felt the pain, losing millions of subscribers since AT&T bought the company in 2015 for $67 billion with debt.
