Businesses, especially those in highly regulated sectors such as financial services, health care and government — and those that operate in multiple countries — are faced with a growing number of data privacy regulations. "Our research counts about 100 countries around the world that have some form of data privacy or security rules in place," Iannopollo said. The most prominent regulation now, the American Data Privacy and Protection Act, has the attention of most of the privacy world but is looking less likely to pass Congress, O'Leary said. "Organizations must identify the data that falls within the scope of the rules," Iannopollo said. Along with the focus on data minimization, organizations should enhance their abilities in data discovery and mapping, O'Leary said.
The region-wide STOXX 600 index (.STOXX) was up 0.4% at a one-week high, taking cues from an upbeat session on Wall Street overnight. "What we're seeing is a recovery in risk appetite after a fairly negative set of central bank meetings for equities," said Adam Hoyes, markets economist at Capital Economics. The STOXX 600 (.STOXX) has fallen about 11% so far in 2022, but it has still outperformed the benchmark U.S. S&P 500 index (.SPX), which has declined 18.6% and is on track for its worst yearly performance since 2008. Disney stock is down 45% this year and on track for its worst annual performance since 1974. The shares have been hit by pandemic disruptions, management issues, and the wider market downturn. The painful selloff has erased about $200 billion from Disney's market capitalization since March 2021. Yet investors have balked at the streaming service's rising costs, which fueled a hefty $1.5 billion operating loss in Disney's streaming division last quarter. Disney stock has also been caught up in a wider market downturn.

“It is pretty unprecedented,” Billy Palmer, senior fellow at Nuffield Trust, a health research firm, told CNN. While small pockets of nursing staff have walked out before, the country’s National Health Service has seen “nothing of this scale until now,” he added. ‘Enough is enough’Earlier this year, the RCN rejected an offer by the government to increase nurses’ pay by a minimum of £1,400 ($1,707) a year. Each additional 1% pay rise for nursing staff would cost the government around £700 million ($854 million), he added. Internationally, it is hard to compare UK nurses’ pay, given health care systems differ significantly between countries, but it falls somewhere in the middle of the range of comparable economies, Palmer said.

CNN —The love showered on Brendan Fraser out of film festivals inflates expectations for “The Whale” wildly out of proportion, in a movie based on a play that occurs almost entirely within a lone apartment. Weighted down not by its morbidly obese protagonist but rather its stick-thin supporting players, Fraser deserves praise for his buried-under-makeup performance, but that’s not enough to keep the movie afloat. Adapted by Samuel D. Hunter from his play, “The Whale” actually derives its title from the book “Moby Dick,” although the convincing enormity of Charlie’s physique obviously provides another meaning. As poignant and heartbreaking as Charlie’s plight is, “The Whale” can’t transcend the line between theater and film. While it’s easy to root for Fraser to earn accolades, in the annual hunt for award-worthy movies, consider this another one that got away.
Sanders has a 27-5 coaching record at Jackson State, including going 12-0 this year and winning two consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference titles. Sanders will owe Jackson State around $300,000 in a buyout for the 2020 contract, according to USA Today. This is not a Deion Sanders thing,” Parker told NBC News. “I do think he cared about the well-being of Jackson State football players. I think the buzz around the program will change, especially if they don’t hire a coach that has a similar stature as Deion Sanders.”
The global airline industry is set to return to profitability again next year following a near-three year downturn fueled by the Covid-19 pandemic, an industry body said Tuesday. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said it expects the industry to post a "small" net profit of $4.7 billion in 2023, with more than 4 billion passengers set to take to the skies. Director General Willie Walsh told CNBC the predictions marked a "step in the right direction" for an industry clobbered by pandemic-induced travel restrictions and resultant staff shortages. "The recovery is going well," Walsh told CNBC's Julianna Tatelbaum. For 2022, IATA also reduced its forecast for industry-wide losses to $6.9 billion from $9.7 billion in June's outlook.
Dec 5 (Reuters) - Tech startup Rokt said on Monday it raised its valuation to $2.4 billion in a secondary funding round led by investment firm Square Peg and asset manager Wellington Management, and is planning for an initial public offering encouraged by the e-commerce boom. Growth in e-commerce since the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a demand for marketing software companies such as Rokt. The company uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze online shoppers and their engagement with products and services. "This has further propelled Rokt's growth and we're pleased to see this expression of support from existing investors as Rokt looks towards an IPO," Buchanan added. New York-based Rokt was valued at $1.95 billion in December last year after it raised capital in a Series E funding round led by Tiger Global that also saw participation from Wellington Management, Whale Rock Capital Management, Pavilion Capital and Square Peg.

A "mild recession" is on the cards, according to Commerzbank CEO Manfred Knof. Commerzbank CEO Manfred Knof says the bank has prepared for an uplift in nonperforming loans, but the situation is "definitely not a disaster or default issue" as a "mild recession" is likely in the cards. "We have already made provisions but still at the moment we don't see a lot of issues ahead of us," Knof told CNBC's Annette Weisbach at the European Banking Congress in Frankfurt Friday. Nonperforming loans are bank loans likely to be repaid late or not in full and are also known as "bad debt." How to invest for the long termInvestors should build long-term portfolios around three asset classes, according to JPMAM: stocks, bonds, and alternative assets.
Companies Coterra Energy Inc FollowNov 4 (Reuters) - Shares of shale oil and gas producer Coterra Energy fell as much as 8% on Friday after the company cut its estimate of proven oil reserves, a key measure of future production growth. Coterra, which formed a year ago through the merger of Cimarex Energy and Cabot Oil & Gas, said proved reserves on its books will drop roughly 15% to 20% year-over-year at December 31, 2022. The decline was driven by a roughly 32% to 36% decline to gas reserves in its Marcellus shale properties in the Eastern United States that came with the Cabot acquisition. Rival U.S. shale oil producer EOG Resources said oilfield costs could increase by 10% next year, on top of a 7% increase in 2022, as inflation continues to snarl the energy industry. EOG, which this week announced it had extended operations into Ohio, said it will maintain low single-digit oil production growth next year.
