Albuquerque, New Mexico AP —Jurors in New Mexico have awarded a man more than $412 million in a medical malpractice case that involved a men’s health clinic that operates in several states. The man’s attorneys celebrated Monday’s verdict, saying they are hopeful it will prevent other men from falling victim to a scheme that involved fraud and what they described as dangerous penile injections. That is a very egregious breach of their fiduciary duty,” said Lori Bencoe, one of the lawyers who represented the plaintiff. The clinic is accused of misdiagnosing him and unnecessarily treating him with “invasive erectile dysfunction shots” that caused irreversible damage. According to court records, jurors found that fraudulent and negligent conduct by the defendants resulted in damages to the plaintiff.

It uses genetic data … to see if having certain genes linked to depression also makes people more likely to have menstrual pain. The findings help expand the important, and often overlooked, discussion around mental health and period pain. Below, experts elaborate on newfound and known associations between period pain and depression, why a genetic cause can’t be inferred from a genetic connection, and ways you can manage depressive symptoms and painful periods. On the other hand, experts noted that the opposite relationship — period pain or reproductive shifts preceding depression — has occurred in both human and animal research and in clinical practice. Additionally, methods experts know to be effective in treating period pain can also improve depression, Amies Oelschlager said — such as exercise, yoga, stress-reduction techniques, dietary changes and good sleep quality and quantity.

Target , Kohl's and Best Buy each reported disappointing third-quarter results as early holiday deals fell short of meaningfully boosting their businesses. Choosy consumers have made the gulf between successful and struggling retailers even more stark heading into the holiday shopping season, said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail. That's a smaller year-over-year increase than the 3.9% jump from the 2022 to 2023 holiday season, when spending totaled $955.6 billion. Dick's and Abercrombie both hiked their full-year outlooks this week and said they expect a strong holiday shopping season. Kohl's warned it will have a deeper-than-expected drop in sales and announced a change in CEO ahead of the crucial shopping season.

For Max Frazier, shopping on Black Friday used to be one of his favorite annual traditions. On Thanksgiving, Mr. Frazier and his wife would scan through newspaper ads looking for deals on toys that they wanted to buy their grandchildren. CNN —Syrian armed rebels have entered Aleppo just three days into their surprise offensive, marking the first time they have set foot in the country’s second largest city since government forces recaptured the city in 2016. Rebel forces launched a surprise attack this week, sweeping through several villages outside the city and reigniting conflict that had been largely static for years. “Our forces have begun entering the city of Aleppo,” said the newly formed rebel coalition, the Military Operations Command. Earlier Friday, the rebel group said it seized control of the Syrian government’s Military Scientific Research Center on the outskirts of Aleppo city after “intense clashes with the regime forces and Iranian militias.” It later shared a video of Syrian regime tanks leaving Aleppo as rebel forces advanced. Every week, I visit my father, who has Alzheimer’s and lives alone. When I tell people this they say, “Is that safe?”“Probably not,” I say, and think, Is life? “We’re trying to help him stay there as long as possible.” They’ll say, “I’m sorry.” I’ll say, “Thank you.” But here is the truth: I am enjoying Dad’s Alzheimer’s. When he first started having symptoms, before my mother died, it was hard, of course. I am not making light of a terrible disease, and I’m aware that at any time my dad’s symptoms could take a turn.

But when he first began using credit, he made what he now considers his biggest credit mistake: only using one credit card with a low limit. How credit scores are calculatedAfter he began working in the credit industry, Ulzheimer learned how FICO credit scores are calculated and realized his mistake. "Instead of trying to depend on one credit card, I learned how to properly manage a whole inventory of credit cards," he says. Having more credit cards increased his overall credit limit and improved his credit utilization rate. As soon as he spent above $60 on his initial credit card with a $600 limit, it bumped his credit utilization rate above 10%.

A strong market run through November typically bodes well for the final month of the year, according to Ned Davis Research. "One adage that has consistently tested well is, momentum leads price," chief U.S. strategist Ed Clissold wrote in a note to clients on Wednesday. "Big gains tend to be followed by additional gains. "The key takeaway is that positive returns have not pulled forward gains," Clissold said, adding that 1996 was the last year the S & P 500 declined in December after seeing a 20% gain through November. Ned Davis continues to recommend overweighting U.S. stocks, even though the S & P 500 has already exceeded the firm's year-end target of 5,950.

UK transport minister quits in new blow to PM Starmer
  + stars: | 2024-11-29 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Britain's transport minister Louise Haigh has resigned after pleading guilty years ago to an offence in connection with misleading police over a work mobile phone, in another blow to Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Starmer thanked Haigh for her work and for all she had done "to deliver this government's ambitious transport agenda". The opposition Conservative Party said Haigh had "done the right thing" but asked why Starmer had appointed her when he was apparently aware of her fraud conviction. "The onus is now on Keir Starmer to explain this obvious failure of judgment to the British public," a spokesperson for the Conservative Party said in a statement. Haigh's resignation is yet another blow to the Labour leader, who has seen his party's approval ratings plunge since July.
