I have few so profound.”One month later, Staley allegedly sent another email to Epstein: “I realize the danger in sending this email. Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat is up for election next year in what is expected to be an extremely competitive race. California Sen. Dianne Feinstein , who will turn 90 later this year, said she won’t run for re-election, clearing the way for what is expected to be a fiercely competitive fight in 2024 among fellow Democrats for her seat. “I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024,” she said in a written statement. New York CNN —Microsoft founder Bill Gates said he “shouldn’t have had dinners” with Jeffrey Epstein during an interview with Australia’s ABC 7 .30. But Gates had told CNN he only had dinners with him for potential philanthropic opportunities. Presenter Sarah Ferguson grilled Gates, asking if he “regrets the relationship he maintained” with Epstein, going against his ex-wife Melinda Gates’ advice. “You’re going way back in time,” Gates said, adding he’s said this “over the hundredth time.”“I shouldn’t have had dinners with him,” Gates responded. “It’s a time of reflection, and at this point, I need to go forward,” Gates told CNN in 2021.
But add a candidate representing the Bernie Sanders wing of the party, Ro Khanna, and a living legend who got her start with the Black Panthers and would become the only Black woman in the Senate, Barbara Lee — now you're talking about a California Senate race for the ages. Reaching voters isn’t easy in California, with a population approaching 40 million and a land mass bigger than that of many countries. But the race will affect the future of the Democratic Party, both in California and beyond. “An appointment would be a way to make sure that this country has the essential voice of a Black woman,” Allison said. And I don’t see and I don’t understand why it isn’t happening.”Meanwhile, as Lee watches Feinstein, Bernieworld is watching Lee.

Although the city suffered significant damage in World War Two, its famed central grid square of low-rise 19th century buildings survived mostly intact. The GOP is likely to have a better chance in Porter's district with her out of the picture. Enter Katie Porter, the first candidate to announce her intention to run for Feinstein’s seat. Her Senate run has a potential downside for national Democrats that should be clear. The problem Porter’s campaign raises for the Democrats has nothing to do with her chances of winning or what she would do in the Senate. If they decide to seek the Senate seat, there will be no cost to House Democrats because their replacements are almost sure to be Democrats as well.

NEW YORK — Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase are asking a federal court to throw out lawsuits that claim the big banks should have seen evidence of sex trafficking by Jeffrey Epstein, the high-flying financier who killed himself in jail while facing criminal charges. The banks said in filings late Friday they didn’t commit any negligent acts that caused harm to the women who filed the lawsuits and that the lawsuits failed to show that they benefitted from Epstein’s sex trafficking. The lawsuits, which seek class-action status to represent other Epstein victims, claim that the banks knowingly benefitted from Epstein’s sex trafficking and “chose profit over following the law” to earn millions of dollars from the financier. “Without the financial institution’s participation, Epstein’s sex-trafficking scheme could not have existed or flourished,” the lawsuits claim. JPMorgan Chase said Friday that the Jane Doe in its case “is entitled to justice ...
RALEIGH, N.C. — Mark Meadows, the former White House chief of staff to President Donald Trump, won’t face voter fraud charges related to his 2020 registration and absentee vote in North Carolina, the state’s attorney general announced Friday. Meadows drew the attention of government attorneys when details that he was simultaneously registered to vote in North Carolina and two other states surfaced. Meadows cast a North Carolina absentee ballot by mail for the November general election, when Trump won the battleground state by just over 1 percentage point. Meadows began arousing public suspicion of widespread voter fraud leading up to the 2020 general election as the polls showed Trump trailing President Joe Biden. Election officials from both parties, as well as judges and Trump’s own attorney general, concluded there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.
New York CNN —The U.S. Virgin Islands government filed a lawsuit Tuesday against JPMorgan Chase, alleging that the Wall Street bank benefited financially from Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking operation and failed in its duty to report suspicious financial activity. “Human trafficking was the principal business of the accounts Epstein maintained at JPMorgan,” the lawsuit states. The lawsuit claims that JPMorgan Chase failed to make proper regulatory filings that could have tipped off the government to Epstein’s alleged sex-trafficking ring of underage girls through private islands he owned in the U.S. Virgin Islands. A JPMorgan Chase spokesperson told CNN the company had no comment on the lawsuit Wednesday evening. The new lawsuit also comes less than a month after Attorney General George settled the U.S. Virgin Islands’ lawsuit against Epstein’s estate for more than $105 million dollars, along with an agreement that the estate will sell Epstein’s islands in the territory and end business operations there.

CNN —Both the defense and prosecution in the Los Angeles sexual assault trial against former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein concluded closing arguments Thursday, bringing the weekslong trial one step closer to jury deliberations. A rebuttal from prosecutors to the defense attorney’s closing remarks is expected to begin Friday morning. Jurors heard from about 50 witnesses, including four accusers who were identified in court as Jane Does due to the nature of their allegations. Those alleged incidents are not being charged as part of this case because they happened outside of Los Angeles County. Midway through the trial, four of the original 11 charges against Weinstein tied to a fifth Jane Doe were dropped without explanation.

Midway through the trial, four of the original 11 charges against Weinstein tied to a fifth Jane Doe were dropped without explanation.
A former financier and associate of Jeffrey Epstein was sued Monday on allegations that he raped a woman in Epstein’s New York City mansion in spring 2002, according to court filings. The review, carried out by a New York law firm, declared that Black wasn’t involved in Epstein’s criminal activities. At the time, Epstein didn’t disclose Black’s name to Pierson, and she didn’t ask, according to the suit. Black then said ‘Black, my name is Leo Black,’” according to the filings. Another woman, Guzel Ganieva, sued Black last year, accusing him of rape and defamation, according to court filings.
Leon Black, at a 2015 conference in California, stepped down as Apollo’s chief executive and chairman last year. A woman sued Leon Black , alleging the billionaire co-founder of Apollo Global Management Inc. attacked and raped her in 2002 at the home of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein . In the suit, filed Monday in New York State Supreme Court, the woman, Cheri Pierson, alleges that Mr. Black raped her in a private suite in Epstein’s Manhattan mansion. New York CNN —Two anonymous women who accuse the late Jeffrey Epstein of sexual abuse have filed separate civil lawsuits against JP Morgan Chase & Co. and Deutsche Bank AG, claiming the big banks enabled and benefitted financially from Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking operation. The class action suits were filed in part under a new law in New York, which allows adult sexual abuse survivors to sue their alleged abusers, even if the statute of limitations has expired. Specifically, Deutsche Bank chose facilitating a sex trafficking operation in order to churn profits,” the suit claims. The suit alleges Deutsche Bank ignored red flags including payments to numerous young women and large withdrawals of cash. In 2020, New York regulators fined Deutsche Bank $150 million and slammed the lender for “mistakes and sloppiness” in its relationship with Epstein.
Deutsche Bank was fined by New York state’s financial regulator in 2020 for failing to properly monitor its dealings with Jeffrey Epstein and other lapses. Women who accused Jeffrey Epstein of sexual abuse are suing Deutsche Bank AG and JPMorgan Chase & Co., saying the banks facilitated Epstein’s alleged sex-trafficking operation and ignored red flags about their wealthy client. The two lawsuits seek class-action status and unspecified financial damages. They were both brought by lawyers that have represented many of the late financier’s accusers. The suits were filed in federal court in New York on Thursday.
