Some elements of the Jeep joint venture's failure are particular to Stellantis - and the former car groups that feature among its 14 brands. But data compiled for Reuters by consultancy LMC Automotive expose a problem shared by a number of other global carmakers: plummeting Chinese plant usage. Reuters GraphicsThe Jeep failure in China happened less than two years after Stellantis was formed by the merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler. "Chinese companies actually have an early mover advantage because they embraced electrification faster than the foreign companies were willing to," he added. While fully-electric cars make up an average of 5% of models foreign carmakers sell in China, they account for 30% of Chinese carmakers' models, according to LMC data.
The remains of sausage dogs were found in the 2,000-year-old drains of the Colosseum. Archaeologists said they might have been made to fight bears or perform acrobatics in ancient Rome. "We found many bones from dogs which were similar to the modern sausage dog," Alfonsina Russo, director of the Colosseum, told The Telegraph. The dogs would have been ancestors of sausage dogs rather than true dachshunds, the paper noted. The Colosseum archaeologists also found the bones of large dogs, leopards, lions, bears, and ostriches in the ancient drains.

Alfonsina Russo, Director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, said the discoveries "deepen our understanding of the experience and habits of those who came to this place during the long days dedicated to the performances". A judge has denied a motion to make a gender discrimination lawsuit against Nike a class action. Federal magistrate judge Jolie A. Russo denied a motion to convert the lawsuit into a class action late Tuesday. Nike and plaintiffs have 14 days to file written objections to the rulings, then another 14 days to respond to objections. The ruling to deny class certification also will be reviewed by another federal judge. In its motion against class certification, Nike's attorneys said they would move for summary judgment after the judge ruled on the motion for class certification, essentially meaning they'd ask a judge to decide the case.
"All Chinese EV makers want to achieve Euro NCAP five-star ratings in order to be more competitive in the European market," said Brian Gu, president of Chinese EV maker Xpeng (9868.HK). Perhaps more importantly for sales, high safety ratings also open up the potentially huge corporate car fleet market for Chinese EV makers. European carmakers are also pursuing five-star ratings for their EVs and hybrids, from BMW's (BMWG.DE) iX to Volkswagen's (VOWG_p.DE) ID.4 and ID.5. But almost half the Chinese cars sold were EVs, according to Inovev, giving them a 5.8% share of Europe's fully-electric vehicle market. Inovev vice-president Jamel Taganza said all Chinese cars sold in Europe would be EVs within a few years, with more lower-cost models on the way.

While it remains true that there is no cure for the common cold, social media users are sharing a misleading message that the common cold is itself a “cure” for built-up toxins and debris. The common cold is the body’s response to infection by a variety of common viruses, and there is no evidence that cold symptoms have a detoxifying effect, experts told Reuters. But the most common cause is the large family known as the rhinoviruses (here) (here). Social media claims that the common cold is actually a detox capable of removing toxins from the body are false, Russo said in a phone interview. Like common cold viruses, RSV is a respiratory virus that transmits from person to person and typically causes moderate cold symptoms in most people.

Nov 5 (Reuters) - Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N) on Saturday posted a $2.69 billion third-quarter loss as rising inflation, falling stock investments and a big loss from Hurricane Ian offset improvement in many of the conglomerate's businesses. Berkshire also bought back more of its own stock but was cautious, repurchasing $1.05 billion, similar to the second quarter. Berkshire also said rising costs from fuel and accidents hurt respective results at two of its best-known businesses, the BNSF railroad and Geico auto insurer. Results included $10.45 billion of losses from investments and derivatives, as the stock prices of many large Berkshire investments other than Apple Inc (AAPL.O) fell. Results improved despite a $2.7 billion after-tax loss from Ian, a strong Category 4 hurricane that slammed into Florida on Sept. 28.

Joe and Anthony Russo "won't be ready to do anything with Marvel until the end of the decade." The Russos made four movies for Marvel, including "Avengers: Endgame." The directors previously told Insider they had no plans to return, but seemed open to it. The duo made four movies for Marvel — 2014's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," 2016's "Captain America: Civil War," 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War," and then "Endgame" in 2019. "It would be bigger than 'Infinity War' and 'Endgame,'" Joe said.
"Avengers: Endgame" co-director Joe Russo blamed "corporate sociopathy" for "Batgirl" being scrapped. Russo said it's rare for "something that high profile, that expensive" to be "murdered in such a way." "It's sad, but we're at a time in the business where corporate sociopathy is going to rear its head because people are scared," he added. Discovery canceled the release of "Batgirl" earlier this year after the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger completed, as the company looked to cut down on costs. "Avengers: Endgame" is the second-biggest movie at the worldwide box office of all time, behind "Avatar."

A lawsuit alleges that Palantir made "materially false and misleading statements" about the company ahead of its earnings reports released May 9. The complaint says that the COVID-19 pandemic and Russo-Ukrainian War are the "destabilizing conditions" that Palantir had said would be "tailwinds for its business." A Palantir investor hit the company with a suit seeking class-action status on September 15, alleging that the software company committed securities fraud by making "materially false and misleading statements" by claiming "armed conflicts" and "economic crises" would help its business and earnings.
