NEW YORK (AP) — Hours before the fall's first “Monday Night Football” game, Disney and Charter Communications have settled a business dispute that had left some 15 million cable TV customers without ESPN and other Disney channels. Disney said that because of the deal, the majority of its ESPN customers would have service restored to Charter's Spectrum cable system right away. Charter confirmed the deal Monday. It comes before the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills were to debut their season on ESPN and ESPN2. It's the first game for the Jets with Aaron Rodgers as quarterback, and many Spectrum customers are in the New York area.

The site briefly offered bettors a parlay, a wager tied to multiple outcomes, based on three New York teams playing Monday night. "We sincerely apologize for the featured parlay that was shared briefly in commemoration of 9/11," the company said in a statement posted on Twitter. On the Jets’ third official offensive play of the game, left tackle Duane Brown missed a block against Bills linebacker Leonard Floyd. Rodgers tried to escape, but Floyd sacked Rodgers, rolling the quarterback’s legs as they both went to the ground. Charter and Disney have reached a rights deal, and the media industry was duped. Slate's headline the same day honed in further: "Disney Is in a Fight That Might Change TV Forever." But there's a reason why Dolan discussed this concept a decade ago and still linear cable TV exists. Charter still makes money by offering linear cable TV. While the Jets concluded their night with coach Robert Saleh joining a celebratory mob in the end zone, the injury to Rodgers cast a pall over their season. Saleh said after the game that the injury was to Rodgers' Achilles tendon and that the 39-year-old quarterback would have an MRI on Tuesday. A night that began with optimism for the Jets turned disappointing before the game was even four minutes old. Rodgers injured his left ankle when he was sacked by Buffalo’s Leonard Floyd and fell awkwardly on the leg. ESPN and other Disney channels disappeared from Charter's Spectrum cable service on Aug. 31, as contract negotiations reached an impasse. Disney announced this spring that Monday Night Football games would be carried on both ESPN and its ABC Network. That means Spectrum cable subscribers who live in markets with a local ABC TV affiliate not owned by Disney, including Buffalo, New York, will be able to watch Monday's NFL match-up broadcast. Some 25 million cable subscribers have cut the cord, industry-wide, over the last five years, as rising prices for content translate to higher fees for subscribers, contributing to the exodus. Disney, for its part, announced a discount for its Hulu + Live TV service, which will provide access to the U.S. Open, college football and NFL games.

On any given Sunday, there will be more National Football League games available on streaming services than ever before — some even exclusively. The NFL season kicks off Thursday with the Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Detroit Lions. Google's YouTube TV and the NFL's streaming service will also become bigger players in the streaming game. When media giants signed NFL media rights deals in 2021, valued at more than $100 billion, more of those deals included the rights to streaming games. Plus, in this past year, the NFL sold the media rights to its "Sunday Ticket" to Google 's YouTube TV for about $2 billion annually, shifting access to the package of out-of-market games to a streaming-only audience.

On Broadway, Off Broadway, in special events and out of town, living authors are collaborating with dead ones. Some otherwise viable shows, like “Annie Get Your Gun,” need surgery because their racial or gender assumptions are now unacceptable. Others, like “Show Boat,” are merely falling out of copyright, with heirs eager to find a way to remonetize their property. And some — well one — are “Here We Are,” the musical Stephen Sondheim was working on when he died in November 2021. Directed by Joe Mantello and with a book by the comic playwright David Ives, it will reflect a very unusual collaboration indeed.

WASHINGTON — House lawmakers cited the continuing sale of recalled baby products linked to infant deaths on Meta 's Facebook in a round of letters to 17 companies questioning compliance with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standards about the listing of unsafe products. Lawmakers on the House Energy and Commerce Committee said the CPSC has requested an average of about 1,000 takedowns per month to Meta for the Boppy Newborn Lounger, which was recalled in 2021. "Like other platforms where people can buy and sell goods, there are instances of people knowingly or unknowingly selling recalled goods on Marketplace," a spokesperson for Meta told CNBC. "We take this issue seriously and when we find listings that violate our rules, we remove them." Representatives for Amazon, Walmart and Target did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

Recalled baby products linked to more than 100 infant deaths are still widely sold on Facebook Marketplace despite thousands of requests from federal regulators to take down the items, four members of Congress said. Lawmakers wrote that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has sent Facebook parent Meta about 1,000 requests a month since 2022 to remove the recalled Boppy Newborn Lounger, but the product keeps cropping up for sale on the platform. In June, the CPSC's commissioners sent a letter to Zuckerberg calling on him to do more to prevent the sale of the recalled products. In the letter, the members of Congress asked for more information about Meta's product safety policies, how it monitors recalls and how many staff members are dedicated to consumer-product safety issues. But they did not accuse the companies of selling recalled products.
