July 3 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's move to temporarily cap how many posts Twitter users can read on the social media site could undermine efforts by the company's new Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino to attract advertisers, marketing industry professionals said. Under the new cap, unverified accounts were initially limited to 600 posts a day with new unverified accounts limited to 300. Verified accounts could read 6,000 posts a day, Musk said in a post on the site. Hours later, he said the cap was raised to 10,000 posts per day for verified users, 1,000 per day for unverified and 500 posts per day for new unverified users. Kai-Cheng Yang, researcher at Indiana University in Bloomington, said that the limits appeared to be effective in blocking third parties, including search engines, from scraping Twitter data like before.

In the United States, cash assistance to mothers for the first year of their children’s lives strengthened their babies’ brain development. Dozens of American cities have pilot projects to give poor residents no-strings-attached cash. Now comes the additional pressure of extreme weather, both slow and fast, aggravated by the burning of coal, oil and gas. Proponents of cash relief say it’s a more efficient way to use aid money because cash incurs fewer logistical expenses and funnels money directly into the local economy. “Cash transfers help families survive climate disasters,” said Miriam Laker-Oketta, research director for GiveDirectly, an aid group that does just that.

The research also showed that 90% of public companies lack even one qualified cyber expert, showing a significant cyber board supply-demand gap. A recently released report on CISO board readiness conducted by IANS Research in collaboration with Artico Search and The CAP Group, found that less than half of the CISOs stand out as board candidates. So, what skills do CISOs need — aside from cybersecurity expertise — to be considered credible board members? CISOs also need to understand risk to speak to a board. In addition, CISOs must understand business risk.

On Saturday, Elon Musk introduced a controversial limit on how many tweets users can view daily. Ad experts told Reuters that could this undermine Linda Yaccarino's attempts to salvage the company. Elon Musk's controversial Twitter rate limits could damage CEO Linda Yaccarino's work to improve the company, ad experts told Reuters. And Mike Proulx, research director at Forrester, told Reuters the limits are "remarkably bad" for users and advertisers already agitated by Musk's "chaos." The Twitter CEO took over the role from Musk last month, a couple weeks before she was initially scheduled to start leading the company.

But learning the facts - that affirmative action is critical for fostering equal access and opportunity in our academic institutions -cemented my belief that affirmative action is necessary if we want to create an equitable nation. The court’s decision Thursday is consistent with its view that race-based preferences should and would have a limited shelf life. Jon Wang, who revealed himself as a plaintiff in this Supreme Court case, was rejected by Harvard but was accepted at and is now attending Georgia Tech. Affirmative action enabled my ability to experience different ways of thinking and to form the lasting friendships I have made. Affirmative action has been a tool used by many countries to ensure underrepresented communities are included in areas they normally are not.

HONG KONG, June 28 (Reuters) - Four more property developers listed in mainland China said they have received approval to refinance via share placements totalling 19.9 billion yuan ($2.8 billion), in a sign of the regulatory effort to improve liquidity in the embattled sector. Tuesday's announcements of fundraising approval came as investors expect Beijing to unveil more stimulus to revive the crisis-hit property market as part of its broader goal of shoring up the economy. State-owned China Merchants Shekou Industrial Zone (001979.SZ) was the first to receive such approval on June 16. According to state media, for developers traded on the Shanghai bourse alone, 12 companies have announced plans to seek approval for equity refinancing totalling 40 billion yuan. Ted Cannis, a senior executive at Ford, told the Financial Times in December that there is a "large-scale rethinking of logistics operations" across the auto supply chain. "The supply chain is going to be the focus of this decade," Cannis said. Among the companies Apple is relying on to make the Vision Pro is Taiwan's Foxconn — which is the main supplier shifting its supply chain away from China. The move was made after China's COVID-19 lockdowns rocked supply chain and production timelines, but prices are the real driving reason behind the move. "Right now, robustness of our supply chain also needs to be considered to ensure the stable procurement of parts."

However, the golf simulator transaction appears to have been structured to avoid Florida’s rigorous ethical disclosure requirements, said two governance experts in Florida. Florida state law requires public officials to file quarterly reports listing all gifts received with a value over $100. Uthmeier wrote that the loan was “permissible” according to state law and the Governor’s Ethics Code. Trump paid for his own golf simulator, according to the Washington Post. According to the list, the “acquisition cost” of both the treadmill and the golf simulator are listed as $1.

June 21 (Reuters) - Oil prices rebounded early on Wednesday, recovering after two straight sessions of losses, as expectations of hawkish Fed talk later in the afternoon and possible U.S. crude stock draws in outweighed China demand worries. Concerns about demand recovery in China, the world's top oil importer, limited price gains as its economy struggles. "The only reason why I think prices are not climbing (steadily) yet is because the data from China is still unclear. "As for the Fed (meeting), that is also uncertain but with latest inflation data coming in a 4%, they have room to be dovish," Galimberti added. Looking to boost growth, China on Tuesday cut its benchmark loan prime rates (LPR) for the first time in 10 months, with a smaller-than-expected 10-basis-point reduction in the five-year LPR.

Killer whales near Spain and Portugal have been confronting, and even sinking, boats. The killer whales typically approach the ship from behind and then try to strike the rudder until the boat is immobilized. People online have joked the killer whales are "orcanizing" an "orca rebellion," with many social media users rooting for the whales. But the result could be an increase in fear of killer whales in the popular imagination, similar to what the movie "Jaws" did for sharks. In reality, killer whales — which got their names from hunting other whales — do not pose a significant risk of harm to humans.

Eviction filings are more than 50% higher than the pre-pandemic average in some cities. After a lull during the pandemic, eviction filings by landlords have come roaring back, driven by rising rents and a long-running shortage of affordable housing. There was also $46.5 billion in federal Emergency Rental Assistance that helped tenants pay rent and funded other tenant protections. Forty of the state's 62 counties had higher eviction filings in 2022 than before the pandemic, including two where eviction filings more than doubled compared to 2019. But as protections went away, housing prices skyrocketed in Austin, Dallas and elsewhere, leading to a record 270,000 eviction filings statewide in 2022.

The research raises critical legal and ethical questions, and many countries, including the US, don’t have laws governing the creation or treatment of synthetic embryos. “Unlike human embryos arising from in vitro fertilization (IVF), where there is an established legal framework, there are currently no clear regulations governing stem cell derived models of human embryos. “I just wish to stress that they are not human embryos,” Zernicka-Goetz said. Right now, the synthetic model human embryos are confined to test tubes. “There is much work to be done to determine the similarities and differences between synthetic embryos and embryos that form from the union of an egg and a sperm.”

watch nowInvestors are ignoring a huge subsection of tech because it's considered "taboo" – despite the fact that it is set to be worth $1 trillion by 2027. But just 3.3% of digital health investment in the U.S. went towards women's health between 2011 and 2020, according to digital consultancy Rock Health. Research by Women's Health Access Matters suggests that a $300 million investment into improving female health could generate around $13 billion. It is now one of the largest companies in the FemTech space and has a revenue of $100 million. The issue of not understanding women's health – and the importance of female-specific health solutions – has deeper roots.
