Donald Trump is vowing to make the United States “the crypto capital of the planet,” and a new Republican-sponsored Senate bill demands that the Fed invest billions in bitcoin. All of this might suggest that the crypto world is finally putting its scandals and unsavory reputation as the playground of crooks and financial charlatans behind it. Politicians’ newfound love of crypto probably has more to do with a cynical bid for young voter support and Silicon Valley cash than a maturing of a financially perilous set of assets. If anything, crypto today presents even greater risks to its investors and to our financial institutions than it did before. An Arizona grand jury that indicted 18 allies of former President Donald Trump on criminal charges related to trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state was interested in indicting Trump as well, but was asked not to do so by the state attorney general's office, according to a new court filing. Attorney General Kristin Mayes' office disclosed the grand jury's interest in charging Trump in a filing that disputed a claim by many of the defendants that the office was politically biased in prosecuting them in the so-called fake electors case. "The State Grand Jury was told by the Attorney General's Office on multiple occasions that it had the discretion to indict no one," the office wrote. He also was charged last year in state court in Atlanta with trying to overturn Biden's victory that year in Georgia.

So what took Walz from, nationally speaking, a relative unknown to major-party vice presidential nominee? But is the Walz pick indicative of a campaign that is too online? After all, the Harris campaign has been riding a wave of good emotions since she became the presumptive Democratic nominee. One of the first rules when it comes to a vice presidential pick is to “Do no harm.” Harris likely did no harm with this pick. She seems to have momentum, and the Walz pick will probably do nothing to impede it.
