Rose was one of baseball’s greats – a winning-obsessed sparkplug who topped MLB’s all-time hit list with 4,256 over a 24-season career. It wasn’t until 2004 that Rose publicly admitted betting on baseball and the Reds, though he denied ever betting against his own team. Sometimes, on the weekend of baseball Hall of Fame inductions in Cooperstown, New York, he also would hold autograph sessions at a nearby bookstore. While Cooperstown didn’t admit him into its Hall of Fame, the Reds got him into theirs with the commissioner’s permission. That was the perfect way to capture Rose, said Johnny Bench, the Hall of Fame catcher.

Hong Kong CNN —China has taken a step forward in its ambitious plan to land astronauts on the moon by 2030 – unveiling the specially designed spacesuit its crew will don for what’s expected to be a landmark mission in the country’s space program. An image of China's new lunar spacesuit as it appeared in a video shared by state media. The agency revealed a protoype of its Artemis III spacesuit prototype, the AxEMU, in 2023. Thanks to its thin exosphere, the moon is an unforgiving place, exposed to both the sun’s rays and the cold of space. “Unlike low-Earth orbit missions, astronauts will be in a harsh natural lunar environment during lunar extravehicular activities.

It is one of Spanish football’s most iconic fixtures, but Sunday’s 1-1 draw between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. And the US has incessantly pushed for a Gaza ceasefire that neither Netanyahu nor Hamas seems to want. For instance, the US and its allies helped repel a massive Iranian missile and drone attack against Israel in April. It has also killed other senior members of the two groups in strikes in Syria, Lebanon, Iran and in Gaza. And pro-Trump Republicans are goading him to go further — at least partly to weaken Biden and his chosen successor, Harris. This is just one of many reasons why Netanyahu is incentivized to expand his war no matter how powerless it makes America look.

A poll released last week from AAPI Data, a data analytics firm that focuses on Asian Americans, found that 66% of Asian American voters plan to support Harris and 28% intend to back Trump. The same survey found that 62% of Asian American voters say they have a favorable opinion of Harris, compared with 35% who hold an unfavorable view. Republican officials declined to elaborate on efforts to win over Asian American voters. An oil platform in the Red Sea in Ras Behar region, Egypt on January 29, 2023. Oil prices edged higher on Monday on increasing concerns of potential supply disruptions from the Middle East producing region after Israel stepped up attacks on Iranian-backed forces. Brent crude futures for November delivery increased 16 cents, or 0.22%, to $72.14 a barrel as of 0043 GMT. That contract expires on Monday and the more-active contract for December delivery gained 10 cents, or 0.14%, to $71.64. U.S. crude oil prices are on pace for a third monthly loss in a row in September as rising supplies from OPEC+ and weak demand in China haunt the market. "Oil markets are experiencing a panic attack," Amarpreet Singh, energy analyst at Barclays, told clients in a Friday note. Here are Monday's energy prices:Oil prices remain under pressure in part because OPEC+ plans to begin increasing production in December, and as demand in China, the world's largest crude importer, remains soft. Angela Weiss | AFP | Getty ImagesAs she unveiled her most detailed economic plan yet this week, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris pledged to fight price gouging in order to rein in voters' grocery costs. Although Harris released more detail Wednesday as part of her 82-page economic plan, it's still unclear what price hikes her administration would see as illegal "price gouging." Generally, Republicans support fewer economic regulations, although Trump has suggested limiting food imports as a way to lower grocery prices. What is price gouging? Thirty-seven U.S. states already have laws that forbid price gouging in emergencies.

Russia would be in a recession by now if it weren't for the nation's hefty war budget, economists told BI. War spending is propping up the economy, which is becoming increasingly overheated, they added. AdvertisementWar may be the only thing keeping Russia's economy afloat. Russia's economy is also being plagued by currency problems, Gorodnichenko said, pointing to Russia's limited access to the dollar as the result of Western sanctions. That will ultimately depend on how long the war in Ukraine — and therefore, spending on the war — will last.
