Washington CNN —Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would not fire Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell if the former president wins the election in November, according to a Bloomberg interview published Tuesday. Powell, a registered Republican, was first tapped to helm the central bank by Trump in 2017. That still wouldn’t stop Trump from pushing to oust Powell before the Fed head’s term concludes in 2026. “He sued for reinstatement and even though he died while the litigation was pending, the Supreme Court still took up his case. It answers to Congress, not the US president, according to the law that established the central bank.

On Wednesday, the Justice Department released an update on bankruptcy for borrowers following new guidance it released in 2022. "Our clear, fair, and practical standards are helping struggling borrowers find relief that was previously out of reach," Under Secretary of Education James Kvaal said in a statement. It wasn’t until his brain morphed into a computer, however, that he knew for sure he was on a psychedelic trip. “We found that psilocybin desynchronizes the brain,” said co-senior author Ginger Nichols of the study published Wednesday in the journal Nature. “When psilocybin is on board, the brain is disconnecting from its typical pathways and reconnecting to different parts of the brain,” said Nichols, an associate professor of psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. “Science doesn’t fully understand the brain yet, but I felt as if I suddenly knew exactly how the brain works. Sara Moser/Washington University School of MedicineA window for changeScans showed that in the days after the psilocybin trip, most brain networks returned to normal.

Millions of pregnant women get the pitch through their OB-GYN: Put a bit of your newborn’s umbilical cord on ice, as a biological insurance policy. If your child one day faces cancer, diabetes or even autism, the precious stem cells in the cord blood could become a tailor-made cure. More than two million umbilical cord samples sit in a handful of suburban warehouses across the country. Doctors rarely use cord blood anymore, thanks to advances that have made it easier to transplant adult stem cells. And the few parents who try to withdraw cord blood samples often find that they are unusable — either because their volume is too low or they have been contaminated with microbes.

What Parents Should Know About Cord Blood Banking
  + stars: | 2024-07-15 | by ( Sarah Kliff | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
Pregnant women are bombarded with advertisements — on social media, in childbirth classes, even in their doctors’ offices — urging them to bank the blood in their baby’s umbilical cord and gain “peace of mind.”Private banks claim that the stem cells inside the blood are a powerful tool to have on hand in case a child one day becomes seriously ill. They charge several thousand dollars upfront for storage plus hundreds more every year thereafter. But an investigation by The New York Times found that leading banks have consistently misled parents about the technology’s promise. The few parents who try to withdraw samples often find that they are unusable — either because their volume is too low or they have been contaminated with microbes.

If you lived in Los Angeles in the late 1970s, your choices for an aerobic workout class were truly slim. You could go to Jane Fonda’s studio in Beverly Hills, where everyone breaking a sweat was “feather-to-lightweight,” according to one observer. You could try a few dance studios where the professionally beautiful — actresses, models, media personalities — willed their bodies to become even more so. If building muscle was your goal, you could stop by Gold’s Gym or other palaces of pump, where an almost entirely male clientele strove for hard bodies in the image of Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was against this backdrop of fitness exclusivity that Richard Simmons kicked, shouted and shimmied to the forefront of the workout scene, inviting the people he encountered to move with him — first at his Los Angeles studio and then in their own living rooms, through his home workouts on TV and VHS.

“I totally transformed the federal judiciary,” Trump boasted at a summit hosted by the right-wing Moms for Liberty group last summer. “Many presidents never get the opportunity to appoint a Supreme Court justice. All throughout African American history, leaving has been a form of refusal — something Black people have done in response to White supremacy for centuries. Flight is one of the most common actions in the history of Black resistance. Everything in the South depended on enslaved labor. Cities were already fragile from White flight: White families that were not interested in integration left cities for the suburbs decades earlier, in the 1940s and 1950s. But in America, as a Black American, what is home?

An AI-driven stock market bubble could burst early if Trump wins the 2024 election, according to Capital Economics. Trump's proposed policies on tariffs and immigration could slow economic growth and spark higher inflation, the firm said. Higher inflation would restrict the Federal Reserve's ability to cut interest rates. Listening to the album's lead single, "Woman's World," I have to assume it's a portal to the past. In the music video for "Woman's World," Perry's visuals are clearly meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Five people are credited as songwriters for "What Makes a Woman," but none overlap with the six writers credited for "Woman's World."
