The Israeli military said Thursday it is "checking the possibility" that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, accused of being the architect of the Oct. 7 terror attack, was among three militants killed in Gaza during its operations in the enclave. If Sinwar is indeed dead, his killing would be a major coup for Israel and its war in the Gaza Strip. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has reached a historic $880 million settlement over hundreds of child sex abuse claims. The agreement in principle announced Wednesday settles 1,354 child sexual abuse claims, the plaintiffs’ attorney said in a news release. It is the largest single child sex abuse settlement with a Catholic archdiocese. In 2007, the archdiocese settled child sex abuse lawsuits with 500 victims for $660 million. No designated donations to parishes or schools will be used to finance the settlement, the archdiocese said in a statement issued after the settlement announcement.

Intel products sold in China have been recommended for a security review by local officials who allege that the U.S. chipmaker poses "serious risks" to national security. CSAC further accused Intel of using remote management features to surveil users while covertly installing backdoors and of failing to address defects reported by users. Daniel Newman, CEO of The Futurum Group, noted the security review comes amid increased tensions between China and the U.S. in regard to chip controls and AI leadership. China accounted for 27.4% of Intel's revenue in 2023, making it vital to the company's bottom line at a time its stock is struggling following poor earnings and job cuts. However, under U.S. chip policy, the company has been restricted from exporting some of its most advanced products to Chinese clients.

The sleep apnea notification is available on the latest Series 10 Apple Watches and some older models after a software update. In order to detect sleep apnea, the watch measures breathing disturbances during sleep over 30 days. But the US Food and Drug Administration approved marketing of the sleep apnea feature on Apple Watches in mid-September. The parents of a Massachusetts high school senior are suing his teacher, school district faculty members and a local school committee for punishments he received after he used artificial intelligence tools to research and create an outline for a history class essay. The lawsuit is one of the first of its kind in contesting school discipline over the use of AI to complete academic work.
