The federal government is delaying a new rule that could make it easier for millions of workers to unionize after business groups challenged it in court. The National Labor Relations Board said Thursday that the rule — which was scheduled to go into effect in December — will now be effective Feb. 26. The rule sets new standards for determining when two companies should be considered “joint employers" in labor negotiations. But the new rule would expand that definition, saying companies may be considered joint employers if they have the ability to control — directly or indirectly — at least one condition of employment. In adopting these rules, the Supreme Court didn’t address that issue at all. Congress controls when and where the court sits; until 1935, the court sat in the Capitol — a powerful reminder of which branch was beholden to which. But it’s the least-worst alternative to a problem that the Constitution necessarily creates: how to have an independent Supreme Court that is nevertheless at least loosely accountable to the political branches. Accountability and independence aren’t mutually exclusive — something the justices are tacitly conceding by agreeing for the first time to formally adopt a code of conduct.

"I consider it is now the right time to step back from government," Coffey said in a letter to Sunak which was published by his office. Coffey has held several ministerial jobs including health minister and work and pensions minister, and also served as deputy prime minister under Sunak's predecessor Liz Truss. In a letter responding to Coffey, Sunak thanked her for "dedicated service".

The benefits were adjusted based on rules for workers who earn both pension and Social Security benefits. Today, Dave is pushing for the Social Security rules that reduced his benefits to be changed. Social Security benefits are calculated using a worker's average indexed monthly earnings, and then using a formula to calculate a worker's basic benefit amount. If two-thirds of the government pension is more than the Social Security benefit, the Social Security benefit may be zero. Part of what may create that advantage is that Social Security benefits are progressive, and therefore replace a larger share of income for lower earners.
