Among other benefits increases, the contract would increase union members’ pay by last least 25% over four years. Union members have launched a series of protests this week outside of Boeing plants and may ultimately reject the new contract union leaders negotiated with Boeing management. The deal will be officially approved if more than 50% of the members vote in favor of the tentative agreement. That would prevent a strike, no matter how many workers vote to strike. If just more than a third of members vote against a strike, then the contract takes effect, no matter the results of the ratification vote.

The first ballots of the 2024 general election are heading to voters, as Alabama officials started mailing them out Wednesday. Alabama requires that voters have a reason to vote by mail, such as being absent from the county or working during Election Day. In 2022, just over 45,000 voters cast absentee ballots, accounting for roughly 3% of all the state's ballots. Officials in Alaska, Idaho, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Minnesota, South Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, Colorado, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Texas, Mississippi, Oregon, and Vermont will begin sending mail ballots later this month. And Virginia voters will be the first to cast in-person ballots in significant numbers, with early in-person voting kicking off on Sept. 20.

On 9/11, the first meme dropped at 8:56 a.m. "That is a big fucking hole in the World Trade Center sirs!" 9/11 jokes, in other words, often have very little to do with 9/11. In recent years wildfires have regularly burned in and around Wrightwood, a picturesque mountain town 60 miles east of Los Angeles known for its 1930s cabins. In neighboring Orange County, firefighters used bulldozers, helicopters and planes to control a rapidly spreading blaze called the Airport Fire that started Monday and spread to about 3 square miles in only a few hours. Concialdi said the fire was burning away from homes in Orange County, but there are 36 recreational cabins in the area. Residents along the southern edge of Big Bear Lake were told to leave the area Tuesday night, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The blaze had charred more than 51 square miles of grass and brush and blanketed the area with a thick cloud of dark smoke.

Colorado wildlife officials said Monday that they captured and plan to relocate five members of the first pack of wolves to form under the state’s ambitious wolf reintroduction program. That wolf had been involved in repeated attacks on livestock and officials said it would have been kept in captivity if it survived. The pack formed after 10 of the predators from Oregon were released in December over bitter opposition from livestock groups. Ranching groups wanted the wolf pack killed. They said relocating pups risks their survival and wanted more done to keep the pack from killing livestock, such as using electric fencing that can better deter attacks.

Cash previously spoke to Business Insider about his approach to cover letters back when he'd applied for about 1,200 jobs. Almost inevitably, when I'm driving someone, the question comes up, "Do you do this full time?" I recently had three people in my car from another top consultancy that I've applied to a handful of times.

Boeing and the union that represents some 33,000 of its workers have struck a new labor deal, just days before a costly strike could have begun at the plane maker’s main factories. It also secures a commitment from Boeing to build its next airplane in the Pacific Northwest, the union said. It is IAM members who will bring this company back on track,” the union said in a statement on Sunday. This proposal helps keep our legacy alive.”A vote is scheduled for Sept. 12, the union said. The current agreement was set to expire after Thursday and a strike could have started immediately if no deal was reached.

Soon after, the mother’s syphilis test — given to all women before delivery — came back positive. In 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported more than 200,000 syphilis cases — the highest counts since 1950. Spreading the word about syphilisSome public health departments have launched eye-popping awareness campaigns, trying to raise the alarm among both the public and health care providers. Make syphilis testing convenientBeyond greater awareness, access to testing and treatment needs to be quick, easy and convenient, Chokshi said. But permanently bending the syphilis curve will require scaling these efforts nationally and promoting greater coordination between health care and public health.

New York CNN —Boeing and the Machinists union, which represents 33,000 of its employees on the West Coast, have reached a tentative deal that could avoid a strike that had been set to start this Friday. Before it will take effect, the deal would need the approval of the rank-and-file union members who build commercial jets. But leadership of the union praised the tentative deal and said it achieved the union’s goals. The deal represents Boeing’s biggest pay raise for union members. The deal also includes increased job security for union members with a promise to build the next new airplane at one of the union-represented plants in the Puget Sound region.

Customers have come to expect when they order something online, it arrives in two days or less. Many logistics companies have warned about shipping delays due to extreme weather. Freight solutions company Breakthrough, which focuses on sustainable transportation, conducted a survey of 500 shippers and carriers this year that revealed extreme weather was cited as the top transportation challenge. And rather than rely on large warehouses, it uses its stores as hubs, which helps it change delivery fulfillment quickly. In addition to closing warehouses in cases of extreme weather, Amazon is using algorithms to plan delivery worker routes.

The Department of Justice and eight states on Friday accused software company RealPage of unlawfully scheming to undermine competition among landlords and create a monopoly that harms millions of renters. RealPage “allows landlords to manipulate, distort, and subvert market forces,” the Justice Department said in a civil complaint in U.S. District Court in North Carolina. “At bottom, RealPage is an algorithmic intermediary that collects, combines, and exploits landlords’ competitively sensitive information,” the antitrust lawsuit said. “Antitrust law does not become obsolete simply because competitors find new ways to unlawfully act in concert,” Garland said. Democratic nominee Kamala Harris last week unveiled an economic plan that aims to lower rental costs in part by cracking down on the companies behind price-setting tools that let landlords collude.

(Montana effectively allows aid in dying through a 2009 court decision, but that ruling doesn’t spell out rules around residency. In Oregon, 23 out-of-state residents died using medical assistance in 2023, just over 6% of the state total, according to the Oregon Health Authority. She would’ve preferred to travel from her home in Pennsylvania to neighboring New Jersey for medical aid in dying, but it is allowed there only for state residents. Instead she has arranged to die in Vermont, one of two states that explicitly allow medical aid in dying for nonresidents.

It doesn’t matter who you are, it matters that you’re right and you’re able to prove it or bet on it in some way. What wasn’t in the Harris model that should have been?” “Yeah, maybe you really can meme your way to victory. However, rising home prices and mortgage rates in recent years have made this goal difficult to accomplish.
