The AI team at Balyasny Asset Management has been vocal about its ambitions to build an AI equivalent of an analyst, and a recently developed tool called Deep Research is getting it one step closer to its goal. Built by the hedge fund's Applied AI team, Deep Research helps analysts and portfolio managers answer complex questions to research stocks before making a trade. In one recent example, a portfolio manager asked Deep Research to find companies whose supply chains are impacted by tariffs. The Applied AI team wants to continue to level up what the bots can do. Those teams experiment with Deep Research by sending research questions to the Applied AI team to process.

Jim doesn't see a need to step in first thing Thursday morning and buy the dip. Through its Nvidia AI Enterprise service, Nvidia is in the process of building out a potentially massive software business. Quarterly commentary During Nvidia's fiscal second quarter, better-than-expected sales were driven by strength in all key segments, including a Data Center segment revenue record. Regarding China, Kress said, "Data Center revenue in China grew sequentially in Q2 and is a significant contributor to our Data Center revenue. Guidance Taking a closer look at guidance, Nvidia's fiscal third quarter may not have beaten the Street's estimates by the magnitude some were hoping for, but it's far from disappointing.

Elon Musk announced his new company xAI which he says has the goal to understand the true nature of the universe. Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, xAI, is being accused by environmental and health advocates of adding to the pollution problem in Memphis, Tennessee, by using natural gas burning turbines at its new data center, and doing so without a permit. The letter notes that xAI "has installed at least 18 gas combustion turbines over the last several months (with more potentially on the way)." The company has been using the turbines to power the facility, but its long-term plan is to use power from the local utility, Memphis Light, Gas and Water and the Tennessee Valley Authority. MLGW told CNBC that it started providing 50 megawatts of power to xAI at the beginning of August.

Lam aims to change that with NEX, which develops AI image tools for entertainment, gaming, and marketing. Founded in late 2023, the company recently raised a $3.5 million seed round led by Foundation Capital, with participation from Point72 Ventures. NEX does this by enabling users to generate images inspired by other images, not just text inputs, in a "real-time canvas." The startup's tech can also tailor the AI models based on a customer's existing data, a process called finetuning, or even develop models from scratch. Lam's vision for NEX is to be the "visual media tool for the AI era."

Amazon's AI sales guidelines criticize rivals including Google and Microsoft. AdvertisementAmazon has internal sales guidelines that deride the AI capabilities of some of its biggest rivals, including Google. But OpenAI's explosive popularity gave it a head start in generative AI; the internal sales guidelines indicate some AWS customers launched their first AI projects using OpenAI's technology instead of AWS's. "It's no secret that generative AI is an extremely competitive space. AWS has more generative AI services than any other cloud provider, which is why our AI services alone have a multi-billion dollar run rate," the Amazon spokesperson said.

Other talking points from the documents include OpenAI's lack of access to third-party AI models and weak enterprise-level contracts. "For generative AI workloads, AWS will compete most often w/ Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, OpenAI (directly), and Google Cloud's Generative AI on Vertex AI," one of the documents said. Instead, Amazon has prioritized selling AI tools like Bedrock, which gives customers access to third-party AI models. The sales guidelines also outline how AWS sales reps should respond to customers' questions about Microsoft and Google. In situations where Microsoft pitches its AI-powered analytics software, Fabric, to customers, AWS salespeople are instructed to say, "Microsoft Fabric is a new (unproven) offering."

"OpenAI opposes even the extremely light-touch requirements in SB 1047, most of which OpenAl claims to voluntarily commit to, raising questions about the strength of those commitments." They said the existing federal legislation OpenAI is using to support its case is "woefully inadequate." They said they hoped their letter would help push the California legislature to pass SB 1047. In an email to Business Insider, a spokesperson for OpenAI said the letter misrepresented the company's position on the bill. "We strongly disagree with the mischaracterization of our position on SB 1047.

"But we resigned from OpenAI because we lost trust that it would safely, honestly, and responsibly develop its AI systems." Read previewChat GPT-5, the next version of OpenAI's language model that changed everything, is on the way. As AI developers wait to test GPT-5, some have found a new way to bootstrap their way to more advanced AI without an entirely new model. Fewer idle GPUs then translate to more affordable computing, as Davis explained on the No Priors podcast released Thursday. When Davis and his co-authors used the compound AI method, the layered model produced the correct answer 37% of the time — a nearly 10-fold increase. "I think people are getting more sophisticated at thinking about cost in more of a life-cycle way," Davis said.

Generative AI models require huge amounts of training data to enable their systems to produce advanced outputs. Google may have taken Sam Altman's apparent dig at its event "aesthetic" into consideration. Google's Made By Google Pixel event featured dim lighting and a simple setup with wood in the background. OpenAI, the company behind the ChatGPT chatbot, was founded in 2015 by a number of researchers, academics and entrepreneurs, including Sam Altman, Greg Brockman and Elon Musk. At the time, OpenAI said Musk left to avoid a conflict of interest with his other company, Tesla , which was becoming increasingly focused on AI. In the years since, OpenAI has grown into one of the prominent leaders in AI development. OpenAI now reportedly generates annual revenue of $3.4 billion, and has notable customers, including PwC, Moderna and Estée Lauder. Microsoft has invested about $13 billion into the AI startup.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has argued that AI models should eventually produce synthetic data good enough to train themselves effectively. As the well of usable human-generated data dries up, more companies look into using synthetic data. Rather than being pulled from the real world, synthetic data is generated by AI systems that have been trained on real-world data. Synthetic data may help offer some effective "countertuning" to the biases produced by real-world data, too. 'Habsburg AI'While the AI industry found some advantages in synthetic data, it faces serious issues it can't afford to ignore, such as fears synthetic data can wreck AI models.
