But the former president, no stranger to personal attacks, reserved his most violent comments for former Rep. Liz Cheney. In a lengthy and uncompromising riff on Cheney, Trump seemed to insinuate that the former congresswoman would be less of a “war hawk” — as Trump referred to her — if she was in a war herself with guns “trained on her face.”“She’s a radical war hawk. You know when the guns are trained on her face — you know, they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building,” Trump continued. In the aftermath of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the relationship between Trump and Cheney frayed. Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, one of the architects of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, have endorsed Harris over Trump.

CNN —Halloween may be over, but hurricane season still has a few unsettling tricks left in its final month. Three tropical trouble spots bear watching in the Atlantic basin in the coming days as a strange hurricane season continues to defy expectations. CNN WeatherThe US Gulf Coast could finally have some atmospheric protection on its side after multiple devastating hurricane strikes this season. This season is above average in terms of named storms, hurricanes and major – Category 3 or stronger – hurricanes. Hurricane season officially ends on November 30, but tropical systems aren’t bound by that date.

The life of the marigold, known as the cempasúchil in Mexico, reflects our own: the plant sprouts, grows, flowers and dies. The flowers’ yellow and orange glow is ubiquitous across Mexico every year in the first few days of November, during Day of the Dead, as families place cempasúchil flowers on altars and at cemeteries to create a path to guide their loved ones back home. My grandmother died of Covid in October 2020, just as the cempasúchil began to appear in the markets of Mexico City. A few days later, my cousin Gabriel, who lived with my grandmother, went to buy the materials for her first altar. Did they have the chance to celebrate their loved ones?

The outcome of the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 5 won't affect oil production levels in the short- to medium term, Exxon CEO Darren Woods told CNBC on Friday. Former President Donald Trump has called for unconstrained oil and gas production to lower energy prices and fight inflation, boiling his energy policy down to three words on the campaign trail: "Drill, baby, drill." "I'm not sure how drill, baby, drill translates into policy," Woods told CNBC's "Squawk Box" Friday after the largest U.S. oil and gas company reported third-quarter results. Woods said U.S. shale production does not face constraints from "external restrictions." The U.S. has produced record amounts of oil and gas during the Biden administration.

The Chinese EV giant said in its third-quarter earnings on Wednesday it had surpassed Tesla's revenues from EV sales for the first time. The fee turned up in September 2019, after Trump placed 25% tariffs on steel, and hasn't gone away since. Small-business owners have already been facing tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, most of them from China, implemented by Trump in 2018. So far, the tariffs in force under both White Houses have cost Americans $79 billion, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation estimated this summer. The nation's roughly 33 million small businesses employ nearly half the nation's workers and generate more than 43% of the gross domestic product, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates. "Whether we like it or not, Asia is the bike manufacturing hub of the world," said Zagata, who raised prices by between 18% and 22% after the Trump tariffs took hold.

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned around southwestern states this week as they sought to shore up the Latino vote with only five days until Election Day. Latino voters account for %14.7 of all eligible voters in the upcoming election, according to Pew Research Center. New Mexico, where Trump campaigned on Thursday, has the highest share of Latino voters with around 45% the population. The states with the next largest share of Latino voters include California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada. Although Democrats tend to have a historical advantage among Latino voters, that advantage has declined over the past four presidential cycles, according to a national NBC News/Telemundo/CNBC poll from September, especially as Trump makes strides with Latino men.

Investors Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz said Chinese EVs are beating out American and European automakers. Andreessen Horowitz founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz said on their podcast that Chinese automakers have developed high-quality and affordable vehicles supported by a robust supply chain ecosystem. With the American auto industry struggling with slowing growth in its EV market, American automakers need to be able to offer a compelling $20,000 EV that also competes on quality if the US doesn't want to "lose the auto industry," Andreessen said. Mexico City Reuters —Eight of 11 justices on Mexico’s Supreme Court have resigned and declined to participate in an election for the court scheduled for June, the court said on Wednesday. Seven of the jurists’ resignations are effective August 31, 2025, while Aguilar will leave office on November 30. The slate of resignations heightens tensions between Mexico’s Supreme Court and the ruling bloc, increasing the risk of a constitutional crisis as Congress and the presidency remain at odds with the judiciary over the reform. In her letter to the Senate on Wednesday, Rios said her resignation “should not be seen as an implicit endorsement of a (reform) framework that remains controversial.”The 11-member Supreme Court will see its number reduced to nine as part of the reform. Three current justices have publicly backed the reform.

On one level, Trump’s comment shows how his false election fraud claims have entered the outer realms of absurdity. The election fraud claims that Trump most notably supercharged in 2020 to salve his humiliation at losing to Joe Biden are already at high intensity this year. After laying out the darkest closing argument in modern American history, Trump is now increasingly turning to poisoning public confidence in the election. Gore conceded that election, thereby guaranteeing an uncontested transfer of presidential power — a step Trump refused to take four years ago. Just 30% of registered voters think Trump would accept the results of the election and concede if he loses, while 73% say that Harris would accept an election loss.
