The estate of collapsed crypto exchange FTX has filed a suit against Binance and its former CEO Changpeng Zhao in an effort to wrest back at least $1.76 billion, citing a "fraudulent" share deal. The FTX estate alleges that the share repurchase was funded by FTX's Alameda Research division through a combination of the company's and Binance's exchange tokens, as well as Binance's dollar-pegged stablecoin. Binance denies the allegations, saying in an emailed statement: "The claims are meritless, and we will vigorously defend ourselves." That same month, Binance's Zhao pleaded guilty to charges of violating the Bank Secrecy Act for failing to put in motion an effective anti-money laundering program and for breaching U.S. economic sanctions. In another post cited, he said: "As part of Binance's exit from FTX equity last year, Binance received roughly $2.1 billion USD equivalent in cash (BUSD and FTT).

Over the weekend, authorities in Kaifeng and Zhengzhou closed off bike lanes on Zhengkai Avenue, to try to stop cyclists from entering. To prevent students from joining the cycling crowd, some colleges and universities in Zhengzhou even imposed restrictions on leaving campus, according to accounts shared by students on social media. In the spring of 1989, university students in Beijing rode their bikes to Tiananmen Square to join pro-democracy protests that ended in a bloody crackdown by the Chinese military. Their journey quickly went viral, inspiring more Zhengzhou students to follow suit as the hashtag “youth is priceless” trended on social media. Others said local authorities should have been better prepared for the influx of students before they jumped in to promote the trend.

Meanwhile, 28% of holiday shoppers still have not paid off the gifts they purchased for their loved ones last year, according to another holiday spending report by NerdWallet . Major retailers tend to heavily discount some of their products as the holiday season unfolds. Heading into the peak holiday shopping season, there are a few steps you can take to help maximize your cash. "Slow shopping encourages consumers to think through each potential purchase rather than jumping on impulse," Woroch said. "This allows you to be mindful about what you're buying, why you're buying and who you're buying for while also giving you time to save up, compare prices and look for coupons," Woroch added.

Sanders added it is “problematic” if schedule F is being used to reinforce and maintain political loyalty. The spoils system was replaced by the current merit-based system where career employees serve multiple administrations, carrying out their jobs independent of politics. The Biden administration erected temporary roadblocks at the federal Office of Personnel Management – rules aimed at protecting federal workers from retaliatory mass firings. The District of Columbia itself has the largest individual chunk of federal workers in any state or territory, with more than 162,000. Michael Hyun used creative financing to buy a home amid high mortgage rates in 2023. A provision in the mortgage contract called the due-on-sale clause makes this approach risky. But they had one advantage: Eileen was a real-estate agent, which qualified her as a real-estate professional under tax law. There, he found wholesalers, middlemen that buy property under contract to sell the contracts and transfer the property to the buyer. So, instead of going into foreclosure, they sold it to Hyun and transferred the mortgage, which had a balance owed of $368,486 at a 2.75% mortgage rate.

Russia's brain drain has become its economy's biggest problem, an economist told Business Insider. The long-lasting nature of brain drain makes the issue more serious than, say, inflation, which could be remedied by central bank maneuvering. Over the next decade, Russia's economy could devolve into one dependent mainly on its natural resources rather than on the most innovative industries, Portes speculated. That's similar to what other economic forecasters have predicted, with some warning Russia's economy could become de-industrialized as its resources are siphoned off by the war. CNN —President-elect Donald Trump’s social media stock had been sinking fast after a short-lived, post-election-victory surge this week. Then, with a single post on Truth Social, he helped boost the stock again – and added a half billion dollars to his net worth as a result. Trump is the company’s single largest shareholder, and his 114.75 million shares are now worth about $3.7 billion. Trump media rose just 4.4% over the past five days. That could be difficult to do, anyway, because the company’s valuation depends almost entirely on Trump’s ownership and participation on Truth Social, its core product.
