"We've long liked the Bed Bath and Beyond name, but we didn't like the stores, the inventory, so don't expect stores from us." Before the Bed Bath & Beyond bankruptcy, Overstock thought that a rebrand would take years and potentially hundreds of millions of dollars, according to Johnson. Instead, Overstock company was able to buy Bed Bath & Beyond's name and customer data for $21.5 million at a bankruptcy auction. Overstock already has a new Bed Bath & Beyond website in Canada, and it plans to go live with a U.S. website in August. Once a storied retailer, Bed Bath & Beyond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April after struggling for years with dwindling sales and a failed merchandising strategy.

It priced the one-time therapy, Roctavian, at $2.9 million. BioMarin said most study participants continued to respond to the gene therapy through year three and beyond, and it would continue to monitor them for 15 years. BioMarin's therapy will compete for market share with Roche's (ROG.S) Hemlibra, an antibody drug which mimics the function of the blood clotting protein missing in hemophilia A patients. In April, BioMarin cut its annual sales forecast range for Roctavian to $50 million to $100 million, from $100 million to $200 million. June 29 (Reuters) - U.S. banking regulators are asking lenders to work with credit-worthy borrowers that are facing stress in the commercial real estate market. Office loans have posed concerns for some U.S. lenders as property values decline and more borrowers default on their loans. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell earlier in the month said that U.S. commercial real estate lending remains under pressure but appears unlikely to threaten the broader financial system. Banks represent 54% of the overall $5.7 trillion commercial real estate market, with small lenders holding 70% of the loans in that market, according to Citigroup analysts. More than $1.4 trillion in U.S. commercial real estate loans will mature by 2027, with some $270 billion coming due this year, according to real estate data provider Trepp.

June 28 (Reuters) - Spruce Point Capital Management is no longer holding a short position in Nuvei (NVEI.TO), the Canadian fintech firm backed by Ryan Reynolds, after the company's stock reached the short-seller's price target range. Spruce Point disclosed the decision in a tweet on Wednesday, sending U.S.-listed shares of Nuvei up nearly 1.4% at $28.75. Google lays off staff at its mapping app Waze

June 27 (Reuters) - Alphabet-owned Google (GOOGL.O) on Tuesday said it is cutting jobs at mapping app Waze as it merges the app's advertising system with Google Ads technology, without giving details on the number of layoffs. "In order to create a better, more seamless long-term experience for Waze advertisers, we've begun transitioning Waze's existing advertising system to Google Ads technology. As part of this update, we've reduced those roles focused on Waze Ads monetization," Google, which acquired Waze for about $1.3 billion in 2013, said. Google had in December said that it will merge Waze and Google Maps teams to consolidate processes, making it a part of the Google Geo division, its portfolio of real-world mapping products that include Google Maps, Google Earth, and Street View. The news was first reported by CNBC earlier in the day, citing an email from Chris Phillips, who leads the Geo division.

June 27 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms' (META.O) WhatsApp Business application is now catering to more than 200 million users on its platform, a four-fold jump from about three years ago, chief Mark Zuckerberg said on Tuesday. The increase in user base comes as Meta shifts focus to the development of business messaging, as an uncertain economy slows down its core advertising business. Meta said it would shortly begin testing features which will help small businesses run ads that click to the messaging platform without the need for a Facebook account. June 27 (Reuters) - The United States is considering new restrictions on exports of artificial intelligence chips to China, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Shares of Nvidia (NVDA.O) fell more than 2%, while Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) (AMD.O) fell about 1.5% on the news in extended trading. The Commerce Department will stop the shipments of chips made by Nvidia and other chip companies to customers in China as early as July, the report said. Nvidia, Micron, and AMD are among the U.S. chipmakers caught in the crossfire between China and the Biden administration. June 27 (Reuters) - Swedish carmaker Volvo Cars (VOLCARb.ST) said on Tuesday it had signed an agreement with Tesla (TSLA.O) to give its electric vehicles (EVs) access to the EV maker's Supercharger network in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The deal makes Volvo the first European automaker to adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS), adding to the slew of EV makers and charging equipment manufacturers taking up the technology. Tesla's Superchargers account for about 60% of the total fast chargers available in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Its recent deals represent major strides in displacing rival standard CCS that earlier exclusively had the backing of President Joe Biden's administration. The government is offering $7.5 billion in funding to speed the deployment of EV chargers in the United States.

Eylea, which recorded $9.65 billion in global sales last year, has been hit since Roche's (ROG.S) rival treatment Vabysmo was approved last year for wet AMD. Two late-stage trials had shown Eylea was as effective as the lower dose version when given at 8 milligrams at longer intervals without any additional safety issues. June 27 (Reuters) - United Airlines (UAL.O) Chief Executive Scott Kirby has blamed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after severe storms led to thousands of canceled flights in recent days. "I'm ... frustrated that the FAA frankly failed us this weekend," he said in a memo to the company's employees on Monday. "We estimate that over 150,000 customers on United alone were impacted this weekend because of FAA staffing issues and their ability to manage traffic," Kirby said in a memo reviewed by Reuters. Kirby said that the FAA reduced arrival rates by 40% and departure rates by 75% on Saturday. That, he said, led to massive delays, cancellations and "put everyone behind the eight ball when weather actually did hit on Sunday and was further compounded by FAA staffing shortages Sunday evening."

The Menlo Park, California-based company added that in some cases, teams could make changes based on volume, workload and other factors. Earlier in the day, the Wall Street Journal reported the company's move. Robinhood last year said announced job cuts and said that it would change its organizational structure to drive greater cost discipline. According to the report, new light vehicle sales volume in June are expected to touch 1.38 million units, up 17% year over year. SolarWinds executives receive Wells notice from US SEC
  + stars: | 2023-06-23 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
June 23 (Reuters) - SolarWinds (SWI.N) said on Friday that some of its former and current executives had been issued a Wells notice by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over a massive cyberattack in 2020 that the software firm was tied to. While a Wells notice does not necessarily mean the recipients have violated any law, the SEC issues the letter to firms when it is planning to bring an enforcement action against them. The company was at the center of a cybersecurity crisis in December 2020, after hackers compromised SolarWinds software updates and used them to access data of thousands of companies and government offices that used its products. In November last year, the SEC had recommended an enforcement action against the software firm over its public statements on cybersecurity and procedures governing such disclosures.
