Elon Musk's biographer says Musk "is a person with multiple moods and modes and personalities." Walter Isaacson told The Atlantic that Musk's many personalities are "quite vivid and different." "There are multiple Elon Musk personalities, and there are times when he's just brutal, times when he's got an epic sense of himself—which is both frightening and inspiring all at once—and times when he's an incredibly focused engineer," Isaacson told The Atlantic in an interview published on Monday. "One of the exciting challenges is navigating the many Elon Musks, which, unlike anybody else I've written about, are quite vivid and different," the author continued. LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's BAE Systems, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Italy's Leonardo have agreed the next steps to deliver the concept phase of a next-generation combat aircraft, BAE Systems said on Tuesday. The three nations agreed in December 2022 to collaborate to build an advanced front-line fighter to enter service around the middle of the next decade. The new Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) agreement will support discussions to set out working arrangements and capability requirements for the aircraft, BAE said. The three nations will update on the project's progress at London's DSEI international arms fair this week, BAE said. Britain's defence ministry had committed 2 billion pounds to the project, formerly known as Tempest, before Japan and Italy joined.

Musk wanted to save that money by moving the servers to one of X's other facilities, in Portland, Oregon. James Musk asked. "The dude is not very good at math," Musk told the musketeers. TORONTO (AP) — Think of movies about the financial system and your mind is almost sure to go to Gordon Gekko and “Wall Street” or Leonardo DiCaprio’s gyrating Jordan Belfort in “The Wolf of Wall Street.”When Hollywood takes on Wall Street, it usually heads straight to the C-suite. In 2021, Gill’s enthusiastic endorsement of GameStop stock helped fuel a viral trading frenzy that rocked Wall Street and humbled the hedge funds that has shorted the brick-and-mortar video game company. Gillespie was able to follow the phenomenon thanks to his 24-year-old son, who had been involved with the subreddit Wall Street Bets. The following is adapted from Walter Isaacson's biography "Elon Musk," publishing Sept. 12. "Hey, I'd love to come see you and talk about philanthropy and climate," Bill Gates said to Elon Musk when they happened to be at the same meeting in early 2022. In the rarefied fraternity of people who have held the title of richest person on Earth, Musk and Gates have some similarities. Gates had shorted Tesla stock, placing a big bet that it would go down in value. "How can someone say they are passionate about fighting climate change and then do something that reduced the overall investment in the company doing the most?"

A new biography of Elon Musk portrays the billionaire entrepreneur as a complex, tortured figure whose brilliance is often overshadowed by his inability to relate on a human level to the people around him — his wives, his children and those on whom he relied to help build the space exploration and electric car businesses that made him the wealthiest man on Earth. Mr. Musk’s life so far — his difficult childhood in South Africa, his stormy romantic relationships, his success as a visionary who created SpaceX and Tesla, and his impetuous decision to buy Twitter — is detailed through scores of interviews with his family, friends, business associates and Mr. Musk himself. The book, which will be released on Tuesday, is by Walter Isaacson, the journalist whose previous works have chronicled the lives of Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci and Benjamin Franklin. It opens with a quote from Mr. Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, who once said, “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”

Isaacson describes Musk stalking the factory floor of Tesla, his electric car company, issuing orders on the fly. “If I don’t make decisions,” Musk explained, “we die.”By “we,” Musk presumably meant Tesla in that instance. But Musk likes to speak of his business interests in superhero terms, so it’s sometimes hard to be sure. At one point, Isaacson asks why Musk is so offended by anything he deems politically correct, and Musk, as usual, has to dial it up to 11. Isaacson has ably conveyed that Musk doesn’t truly like pushback.

Better policy could unlock growth in Latam - G30 think tank

The report's recommendations include getting the region's macroeconomic framework in shape, investing better in infrastructure, and strengthening political parties. The Group of 30's think tank working group on Latin America said the region suffers a "governance deficit" that will require "deep and ambitious" political reforms, including at the center of government and legislative power. Mexico and Brazil are treated individually, with the former locked in a "growth paradox" where decades of macroeconomic stability and a sophisticated manufacturing sector have not yielded economic growth. Reuters GraphicsThe working group agreed there is no one action that could unlock output across the region, as even the countries that have a strong macro setup are suffering stagnant growth. Andres Velasco, project director of the G30 Working Group on Latin America, said "the opportunities are obvious" for the region as Latam can provide the world with water, food and clean energy.

Spiritus has built a novel approach to direct air carbon capture that relies on a material that absorbs carbon dioxide passively. When the lung-like "fruit" have been collected from the carbon "orchard," they will be put in a container, where low heat will be applied to remove the carbon dioxide. That's important because while carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are at record high levels, carbon dioxide is still diluted and makes up a relatively small percentage of the air. That third component — economical — is critical in the direct air carbon capture field, and is part of what drew Khosla Ventures to make its first direct air capture investment in Spiritus. "We're able to remove about 1,000 times more carbon dioxide than a forest can.

Dan’s research and teaching focus is on using AI for legal services and the regulation of AI in society. For instance, we can develop AI tools to help individuals understand their responsibilities and rights, and preserve and enforce those rights. People in businesses, large and small, are already using chatbots, AI assistants and other AI tools to help them comply with laws, regulations and internal policies. Additionally, new roles are emerging in the legal industry, such as legal engineers who build systems, legal data scientists and legal operations professionals. AI tools will then quickly re-optimize decisions associated with inventory shipments, staffing and promotions.

CNN —Users of marijuana had statistically higher levels of lead and cadmium in their blood and urine than people who do not use weed, a new study found. Marijuana users also had 22% higher cadmium levels in their blood than non-users, and 18% higher levels in their urine, Sanchez said. “Our study wasn’t able to tease apart whether or not self-reported cannabis users were using medical or recreational cannabis, so we can’t say definitively if medical cannabis users specifically had higher metal levels,” she said. Heavy metals aren’t just in marijuana — tobacco smokers are exposed to even more types of toxins. While that’s good news for the environment, it’s worrisome for marijuana users.

[1/2] Volkswagen's factory is seen in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Sao Paulo state, Brazil June 28, 2023. Demand for chips has risen dramatically in the car industry in line with electric vehicle production and the need for increasingly complex software. Volkswagen and Franco-Italian chipmaker STMicroelectronics (STMPA.PA) announced plans last July to co-develop a new semiconductor, marking VW's first direct relationship with a second- and third-rank semiconductor supplier. Volkswagen has not struck a direct supply relationship with TSMC - the world's biggest contract manufacturer of semiconductors - but meets with them every few weeks to communicate its demand situation, Schnake said. The carmaker also plans to reduce the variety of chips required in its vehicles to simplify the supply chain, which will also help simplify its software offering, Schnake added.

"We understand there is a crisis, and the need for banking, but this is our money," Hernandez said. Her business had already adopted electronic banking but she often needs quick access to cash to pay for emergencies on job sites, she added. Rodriguez said he and many other entrepreneurs began using electronic banking long before the new measures were announced to comply with tax laws that have evolved with the growing private sector. But for many smaller businesses and mom-and-pop stores in Cuba, the formalities of doing business, like paying taxes, remain novel concepts, he said. Cuban officials have said the new banking measures are necessary for transparency, to assure transactions are recorded and taxes are paid.
