The consumer price index rose 0.4% last month after gaining 0.1% in August, the Labor Department said in its report. Biden said the consumer price index report shows some progress in the fight against higher prices but there is more work to do, according to a statement issued by the White House. The White House noted that inflation over the last three months has averaged 2% at an annualized rate, down from 11% in the prior quarter. Fighting the global inflation that is affecting countries around the world and working families here at home is my top priority," Biden said in statement. Biden has tried, with modest success, to curtail an inflation surge caused by a U.S. economy emerging from COVID lockdowns and oil-rich Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"More than one" OPEC member disagreed with Saudi Arabia's push to cut production and felt coerced into the vote, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters. Of those cuts, experts expect an actual production cut of about half that level. The production cut is the latest sign of deteriorating U.S.-Saudi relations since Biden took office.

WASHINGTON, Sept 28 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he had spoken with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis the prior day about Hurricane Ian, adding that the federal government had met every request for help from the coastal state. Biden also warned oil companies not to use the storm as a pretext to raise gasoline prices, which spiked earlier this year under pressure from Russia's invasion of Ukraine. "Do not, let me repeat, do not...use this as an excuse to raise gasoline prices or gouge the American people" Biden said, speaking at a White House event on hunger. "This small temporary storm impact on oil production provides no excuse for price increases at the pump, none," he added. Biden described the hurricane as incredibly dangerous and urged Florida residents to obey all warnings related to it.
