CNN —President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks are unique for many reasons. Kennedy brings his addiction worldview to prescription drugs such as those overseen by the Food and Drug Administration, which he would oversee if confirmed as HHS secretary. But Musk denied allegations of past drug use as reported in The Wall Street Journal early this year. Federal employees are barred from taking illegal drugs, and there are no reports to indicate that any of Trump’s Cabinet or other administration picks are using illegal drugs. CNN has reported that this year, Trump’s team is bypassing long and cumbersome FBI background checks for some of his Cabinet picks.

AdvertisementAfter receiving my Ph.D. in sociology, I launched my career in policy development and speech writing. In 2021, both my oldest and youngest kids got complex medical diagnoses. My youngest child's care is a 24/7 job, and even with cutting-edge technology to help manage his medical needs, my sleep, mental focus, and self-care time have been permanently disrupted. In between, I am in our bright and airy kitchen, cooking multiple times a day for the many special diets in our family. But none of this would be possible if I was working at another job five days a week.

Thailand's same-sex marriage legislation, scheduled to come into effect in January 2025, could attract an additional 4 million tourists to the country per year, according to a report commissioned by the travel company Agoda. The report published Thursday estimates the country's marriage equality law may increase tourism arrivals by 10%, netting the country an extra $2 billion in tourism revenue per year, within two years. Arrivals are expected to come, not only from same-sex couples and their wedding guests, but from the broader LGBTQ community and beyond. The new law will make Thailand the third place in Asia to allow same-same marriage, following Taiwan in 2019 and, on a more limited basis, Nepal in 2023. The law is also set to grant same-sex couples rights related to child adoption, health care and inheritance.

CNN —Sitting at your desk all day may put you at greater risk for heart disease –– even if you work out in your spare time, according to new research. This study was particularly helpful in investigating sitting because of its large sample size and the methodology it employed, Diaz said. “We would really recommend that as many people as possible avoid sitting more than 10.6 hours a day,” Ajufo said. The study is also observational, which means that while it can make associations, it can’t prove that the sitting was the cause of the heart disease, she added. To do their job well, muscles need movement.

I found that the centenarians in the blue zones were missing or dead when the study was conducted. "They were falling in regions that had terrible health, and surprisingly that was the shared characteristic of most blue zones. In the letter they state that Buettner's claims about four of the blue zones, Okinawa, Sardinia, Ikaria and Nicoya, "have been fully validated by strict demographic criteria."
