European markets are expected to open higher on Tuesday, with investors keeping an eye on data releases and earnings reports. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 index is slated to open 39 points higher at 8,144, Germany's DAX up 53 points at 19,227, France's CAC 24 points higher at 7,298 and Italy's FTSE MIB up 115 points at 34,002, according to data from IG. Earnings will be coming in from Imperial Brands and Thyssenkrupp , while a finalized euro zone inflation reading for October is also due during the session. Regional markets closed lower on Monday, with investors turning their attention to regional inflation data and to Nvidia earnings due Stateside on Wednesday. Overnight, Asia-Pacific markets traded mostly higher, as investors parsed the speech of Chinese financial policymakers at an investment summit in Hong Kong.

Washington, Seoul and Kyiv have said there are more than 10,000 North Korean soldiers in Russia to support its war against Ukraine, and some of them have engaged in combat in Kursk, near the Ukraine border. Thailand's same-sex marriage legislation, scheduled to come into effect in January 2025, could attract an additional 4 million tourists to the country per year, according to a report commissioned by the travel company Agoda. The report published Thursday estimates the country's marriage equality law may increase tourism arrivals by 10%, netting the country an extra $2 billion in tourism revenue per year, within two years. Arrivals are expected to come, not only from same-sex couples and their wedding guests, but from the broader LGBTQ community and beyond. The new law will make Thailand the third place in Asia to allow same-same marriage, following Taiwan in 2019 and, on a more limited basis, Nepal in 2023. The law is also set to grant same-sex couples rights related to child adoption, health care and inheritance.

☆ Sabre-toothed ‘kitten’ mummy unearthed in Siberia is first of its kind

CNN —A mummified ice age cub from Siberia is the first known mummy of a sabre-toothed cat, and its discovery is generating ripples of excitement among paleontologists. A, B and C reveal views of the mummified Homotherium latidens specimen: A is a thumb claw; B a second digit claw; and С a plantar view. However, the mummy also showed that sabre-toothed cubs differed dramatically from modern lion cubs of a similar age, Lopatin said. Its coat was darker, and its ears were smaller than those of lion cubs; it had longer forelimbs, a larger mouth opening and a more massive neck. Its paw is also more circular than that of a lion cub; in fact, its shape more closely resembles the paw of a bear, Tseng added.
