Williams offered five strategies on how to get the most out of pitch decks. If you read the business pages, it’s been almost impossible to ignore the many articles on the topic of “quiet quitting” in recent months. This buzzy term refers to employees—at least half the U.S. workforce, according to polling—resolving to meet only the bare minimum requirements of their job descriptions. When it comes to giving up, however, Annie Duke has something louder in mind. In “Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away,” the author, consultant and former professional poker player proposes that quitting, the unambiguous kind, ought to be seen as a virtue and honed as a skill integral to both professional and personal success. Instead, it’s often maligned by a culture that valorizes grit and tenacity.
We were the first Black family to join Temple Emanu-El, a synagogue in Providence, Rhode Island. My bat mitzvah was probably the first time I experienced that being Black and Jewish in America was a rarity. As I got older and left the nest of my family and synagogue in Rhode Island, I moved to New York. As a Black woman, when I would tell people that I’m Jewish, the reactions I would get were, “Seriously? She explained that the Jewish faith meant so much to her and that it would be ridiculous to stop participating in it just because someone else was uncomfortable.

Jess Lee, a Sequoia partner, shared tips for founders hoping to be selected for next year. The firm's first US Arc class is beginning its second week of a seven-week intensive course to help founders hone their startup business plans. It isn't enough to just have a great business idea, Lee said — the idea has to be in a market where there is the possibility of huge disruption and growth. "It's not easy to start a company," Lee said. "At seed and preseed it is so much about the story of who you are and why you had this insight," Lee said.
As parents, we hear a lot about the things we should do with our kids. As I researched and wrote my book, "Raising an Entrepreneur," I interviewed 70 parents who raised highly successful adults about how they helped their children achieve their dreams. Despite the diverse ethnic, socioeconomic and religious backgrounds, there were four things that the parents of these smart, driven and entrepreneurial individuals never did when their kids were young:1. Sports, video games, debating, music, birdwatching — every child of the parents I spoke to had a passion outside of the classroom. The parents never veered their kids away from the hobby because they knew it was keeping them mentally active.
Silicon Valley, perhaps even more than the rest of corporate America, has long been engaged in a two-sided battle over the pursuit of happiness. In the Silicon Valley that emerges on Blind, the engineers who strive for work-life balance are just as burned out as the late-night grinders. But Silicon Valley has always overindexed for Optimizers. If this is Silicon Valley today, nobody's happy, and everybody's burnt. Stereotypically, Silicon Valley engineers are grinders.

Then he started billing for 40 hours a week of labor that often took him only a few hours to complete. But after nine months of leaning back, a solid 40 hours is starting to look pretty attractive.
Here's what parents of successful kids have in common, according to research. Children with parents who stepped in to provide instructions frequently displayed more difficulty regulating their emotions later, the researchers wrote. "Too much direct engagement can come at a cost to kids' abilities to control their own attention, behavior and emotions. When parents let kids take the lead in their interactions, children practice self-regulation skills and build independence," Obradović wrote in the study. The parents tend to take parental leave.
People always want to know how I got Jeff Bezos to take a chance and hire me to work directly for him at Amazon in 2002 . One interview took place in a dark office with just the glow of a code-filled monitor and a weird multicolored rotating nightlight in the corner. Bezos started the interview by promising that he was only going to ask two questions and that the first one would be a "fun" brainteaser. Knowing Bezos as well as I do now, I see why those were his only two questions. By the end of the interview, we both knew I would do anything to be successful, despite being a very junior candidate.

On Thursday, Altman revealed how to achieve such extreme success in blog post called "How To Be Successful." It's been viewed more than 200,000 times, according to Altman's site, and he calls it "one of the most important things I've ever written." This is very long, but I think one of the most important things I've ever written. "It is much more important to work on the right thing than it is to work many hours," says Altman. It's also easier to work hard when you have fewer other responsibilities, which is frequently but not always the case when you're young," Altman says.
