Shares of cybersecurity companies are likely to stay on their "secular" growth trajectory despite an increase in interest rates or a slowdown in global growth, according to several fund managers. In addition, Palo Alto Networks earlier this week reported stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings. CrowdStrike or Palo Alto Networks? Joe Terranova, senior managing director at Virtus Investment Partners, who currently owns CrowdStrike , Palo Alto and Fortinet , agreed. Terranova believes Palo Alto and CrowdStrike will be the "mainstays" in his portfolio and revealed that he recently added to both positions.

UBS has identified stocks at risk of dragging one of Europe's largest equities indexes lower by 10% by the end of this year. In addition, it said the consensus estimate of 11.9x for the forward price-to-earnings ratio is "too high" — another reason for stocks to fall. UBS screened for stocks with high volatility, negative earnings revisions already underway, and valuation multiples not yet in the single digits. The above table includes top performers in 2023 so far that may be both overcrowded and expensive, like luxury and semiconductor stocks, according to UBS. UBS also screened for more defensive, less volatile stocks that score well on its framework.

Despite ongoing economic crises around the world, global stock markets have remained resilient so far this year. David Roche, president and global strategist at Independent Strategy , said equity markets were still relatively buoyant "because people are stupid" and overly complacent. They are related," Roche told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" on Thursday. The strategist suggested owning 30-year U.S. Treasurys , which were trading with a yield of 4.35% Friday. Earlier this month, billionaire investor Bill Ackman said he was betting against 30-year U.S. Treasurys in "a world with persistent 3% inflation."

Renowned value investor Guy Spier weighed in on CNBC's Pro Talks on whether it's better to put your money in an S & P 500 index fund , in U.S. Treasurys , or in shares of Berkshire Hathaway for the long run. Asked whether he would invest in the S & P 500 or Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway stock for the rest of his life, Spier said the question poses a false choice that investors don't need to make. Rather than picking one over the other, Spier suggests dividing the investment 50-50 between the S & P 500 and Berkshire, then rebalancing positions at the end of each year. A small risky bet may be acceptable for an investor, if it represents a tiny percent of their overall portfolio. That compares to the S & P 500 ′s 8.2%, the MSCI World 's 6.9%, and the FTSE 100 ′s 3.6%.

Several signals from China this week suggest that European companies with close ties to the world's second-largest economy may face difficulties in the coming months. "BMW has the highest China exposure among European OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] — we prefer a higher US exposure (which Mercedes has). Methodology: Revenue data by geography was available only for 422 out of the 600 companies on the Stoxx Europe 600 index. FactSet data relies primarily on geographical sales data disclosures from companies directly. HSBC identified nine "unloved stocks" listed on the London Stock Exchange that it says could be poised to surge due to several factors. The investment bank said U.K. markets have started to outperform other global indexes for the first time this year — since the release of the U.K.'s June inflation data on July 18. While the bank's strategists retain their underweight view on the U.K. market overall, they highlighted that London-listed stocks are "unambiguously cheap" on a valuation basis. The bank said the above stocks are FTSE 350 constituents with bottom-quartile consensus ratings indicating a sell or underweight rating. "By definition these screens are not relevant to everyone and should be viewed as a basis for further investigation," the HSBC strategists added in a note to clients on Aug. 15.

Toyota has big plans when it comes to electric vehicles — and investors are underappreciating its potential in the market, according to Goldman Sachs. The Wall Street bank suggests that Toyota's plans would raise its share of the global EV market to 8.6% in 2026 and 10.5% in 2030 from negligible levels today. "We think this strategy is grounded on Toyota's robust finances and ability to exercise control over its supply chain thanks to vertical integration," the Goldman analysts said. Goldman Sachs expects shares of Toyota Motor to rise by 15% to 2,800 Yen ($19.4) in the next 12 months. "This will not only allow it to utilize existing assets but also shorten the lead time from development to the start of production and the time to market," the Goldman analysts said.

BENGALURU, Aug 11 (Reuters) - India's Patanjali Foods (PAFO.NS) on Friday reported a 63.6% drop in first-quarter profit as high costs dented margins. Total revenue from operations increased 7.7% to 77.67 billion rupees, while total expenses rose 9.3% due to higher purchases of stock-in-trade and employee costs. Government intervention for lowering prices in spite of holding high-priced inventory impacted profitability negatively during the quarter, the company added. The stock rose nearly 23% in the April-June quarter. Other consumer goods companies have reported mixed results for the first quarter, with KRBL (KRBL.NS) posting an 18.90% rise in its profit, while Venky's (India) (VENK.NS) profit plunged more than 60%.

Renowned value investor Guy Spier has said U.S. regional banks are a "potential minefield" in the current market environment. Moody's left the larger banks' ratings unchanged. Consolidation risks Spier explained that his view stems from the fact that the U.S. banking system remains highly fragmented, with around 12,000 banks nationwide. While not a "massive advantage," Spier believes larger money center banks like Bank of America have a slight edge in profitability over regional banks. Technology threat Aside from the risks highlighted by Moody's, Spier suggested that technology and innovation also pose major threats to regional banks.
