London CNN —Arriving in a horse-drawn open carriage, King Charles III and Queen Camilla attended Royal Ascot in style this week. “We wish all the participants this week the very best of luck in seeking that unique thrill of a Royal Ascot winner.”Last year’s Royal Ascot saw an unlikely win for Charles, with his horse, Desert Hero, overcoming odds of 18 to 1 to land first place. This love of horses has bound together multiple generations of the royal family, from the time of Queen Anne in the 18th century, when Royal Ascot was created, to the present day. Crew members haven’t been able to get off the ship for a variety of reasons. Bennett’s email identifies the eight eligible crew members, which include a cook, a fitter and an oiler. As part of the deal, those crew members will not need to stay in Baltimore. CNN —Scientists have found microplastics in human penises for the first time, as concerns over the tiny particles’ proliferation and potential health effects mount. Microplastics are polymer fragments that can range from less than 0.2 inch (5 millimeters) down to 1/25,000th of an inch (1 micrometer). Ramasamy said he wasn’t surprised to find microplastics in the penis, as it is a “very vascular organ,” like the heart. Seven different types of microplastics were detected, with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP) the most prevalent, according to the study. “We need to identify whether microplastics are linked to ED and if there is a level beyond which it causes pathology and what types of microplastics are pathologic,” he said.

While pregnant, I read up on parenting styles and came across an ultramodern movement called "gentle parenting." Gentle parenting worked when my child was littleGentle parenting was relatively easy during early motherhood. Even when I followed the gentle parenting scripts laid out by gurus, everything felt like an ongoing tug of war. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that gentle parenting is way too gentle. In all honesty, drifting away from gentle parenting made me realize that parenting is more about trusting your gut than following scripts and best practices.

The result of the vote means that Thailand will become only the third place in Asia to allow for marriage equality after Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage in 2019 and Nepal in 2023. Mark Phillips/CNNPrevious attempts to legalize marriage equality over the past decade had stalled. Nonetheless Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, of the Pheu Thai Party, had also promised to bring the marriage equality bill to parliament. Japan is the only Group of Seven (G7) country that has not recognized either same-sex civil unions or same-sex marriage, despite recent high court decisions that ruled not allowing same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. South Korea does not legally recognize same-sex marriage but in February 2023, a South Korean court ruled in favor of a same-sex couple seeking equal health benefits.

UK millionaires are fleeing Britain in their thousands

The continuing exodus from the UK — 16,500 millionaires left between 2017 and 2023 — is part of a global mass migration of the rich that appears to be accelerating. The Henley Private Wealth Migration report found that 128,000 millionaires are set to relocate this year, beating last year’s record by 8,000. By contrast, the ranks of the wealthy have grown in the US, Canada, Australia, Germany and France over the same period. “The outflow of high-net-worth individuals already generated by the economic and political context is now being accelerated by policy decisions ahead of the election,” said White. Still, one very rich couple will apparently be staying, whatever the result on July 4.

Kim Short waited in the doctor’s exam room on an icy day in February, exhausted from the first trimester of pregnancy and trembling in withdrawal from methamphetamine, alcohol, Xanax and Klonopin. She stared at the floor, her black hair curtaining face tattoos of a dagger and stitches, memorials to friends dead from overdose. Inky wings of eyeliner rimmed her eyes. Kim, 32, had first come to the clinic in the fall of 2022 and, in April 2023, gave birth to a healthy, drug-free boy. But within months she relapsed, and child protective services placed the baby in foster care.

See here: Wells Fargo this week disclosed that it had fired more than a dozen employees for “simulation of keyboard activity,” Bloomberg reported, citing filings to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. In other words, they were faking work, perhaps with the kind of mouse jiggler that you can buy online for $20. At any rate, some bankers over at Wells Fargo seem to have gotten caught last month. “And that’s a symptom of a much larger problem.”In Wells Fargo’s case, managerial mistrust would be understandable, given the bank’s history. CNN —What is perhaps most striking about the 32 photographs that make up Jack Lueders-Booth’s new book, “Women Prisoner Polaroids,” is the intimacy that occupies each frame. For that reason, (when I was there) the inmates wore domestic clothes and prison guards were also un-uniformed. I was doing photography for them, making portraits for their annual reports, and sometimes processing family photographs,” said Lueders-Booth. “Over the years, my photographs were appearing on their walls as part of their photo collections, which was very rewarding. Opinion | Reflections on Gen Z and ‘Sellout Culture’
  + stars: | 2024-06-11 | by ( ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
To the Editor:Re “‘Selling Out’ Isn’t an Insult to Gen Z” (Sunday Business, May 26):Francesca Mari captures the zeitgeist that we in the social sector are battling: Even as the world’s challenges are more visible than ever, the percentage of graduates putting their full-time energy toward tackling them isn’t growing. Not only do we need this generation tackling world challenges as soon as possible, but as Ms. Mari’s reporting points out, graduates’ early destinations shape the people they become. Research about the impact of the Teach for All network’s two-year teaching commitments shows dramatic effects on participants’ beliefs about the roots of inequity and how to address it. Before we blame the young people, let’s consider what we’re doing as a society to foster their sense of agency and intentionality about where to put their time and energy. As parents, influencers and educators, we need to foster choices that will shape the future we collectively want to see.

When is the next stock market crash taking place? It's a question I get asked often since I wrote "A History of the United States in Five Crashes – Stock Market Meldowns That Defined a Nation." Until now, I've always been able to counsel that stock market crashes are comfortingly rare events that only occur when elements align, and that a crash is unlikely in the near future. The first is a frothy stock market. It is no accident that the first modern stock market crash, the Panic of 1907, occurred after the biggest two-year rally in the history of the Dow Jones Industrial Average .

Japanese officials are encouraging their single citizens to get out and mingle through the promotion of dating apps in a bid to foster marriage amid record low birth rates. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been at the forefront of such efforts and is expected to launch its own government-backed dating app as early as this year. Already, it has been running a dating app test program called "Tokyo Futari Story," which aims to match individuals using artificial intelligence. Tokyo Futari Story asks participants to submit various identification documents, including tax forms verifying annual income and an official certificate of single status. Users also take a diagnostic test so the app can learn about their values and what they're looking for in a partner.
