Or any of the blockbuster weight loss and diabetes drugs that recently caught the world’s attention? The joy of foodHolst is also very focused on this particular mechanism of the GLP-1 drugs but worries that it can go too far. For others, it is the loss of lean muscle mass that accompanies their weight loss and puts them at greater risk for falls. There is little doubt that for most people, regular exercise and eating right is still the best strategy for weight loss and overall health.

Taco Bell CEO Sean Tresvant credits his leadership success, at least partially, to one piece of advice: "Don't try to be a black belt in everything." "Be a black belt in marketing, and be a brown belt in everything else," Tresvant, who previously held marketing executive roles at Taco Bell, Nike and Sports Illustrated, told LinkedIn's "This is Working" podcast last week. Tresvant received that advice in January upon becoming CEO of Taco Bell — which is owned by fast food giant Yum! Instead of believing he has all the answers, he tries to ask the "right questions" to team members who have expertise that he doesn't, he noted. "I understand I'm not a CFO, but I have a great CFO who can lead the [financial side of the] business."

After Republican President-elect Donald Trump’s dramatic performance with Latino voters, a coalition of Democratic-leaning Latino groups is grappling with the shift and trying to reconcile it with the policies they say many Hispanics support. Along with UnidosUS, Latino-focused advocacy groups such as Voto Latino, Somos Votantes, Hispanic Federation and La Brega y Fuerza Fund sponsored a poll of Latino voters. The coalition rejected national exit poll findings showing that Trump won the majority of Latino men — 55% — to Harris’ 43%. Edison Research, which conducts national exit polling for NBC News and other news organizations, surveyed 2,750 Latino voters nationally. Thirty-seven percent of male participants in exit polling identified as white, while 6% identified as Latino in the Latino groups’ poll.

In today’s edition, senior national political reporter Sahil Kapur examines the way Democrats can still exert some power in Donald Trump's Washington. How Democrats can still flex power in Trump’s WashingtonBy Sahil KapurRepublicans have won full control of Washington, but Democrats will retain two key levers of power to shape legislative outcomes in Donald Trump’s second term. That margin is slimming further as Trump plucks House members for administration jobs. The last two years showed how chaotic and dysfunctional this GOP-controlled House can be, even when the stakes are low. The Ethics Committee has jurisdiction over only sitting House members.

Staff turnover is typical when a new administration comes in, and a significant number of FDA employees similarly considered leaving before President-elect Donald Trump’s first term in office, said one former and one current official. At the time, there were also concerns about what the FDA would look like under the first Trump administration. This time, however, there’s an added layer of anxiety outside Trump: Kennedy. The current official agreed with that assessment, adding that “dozens” are most likely considering their options. One former official and one current official said that at this time it’s all chatter and it’s unclear if anyone has left yet or made any serious plans to do so.

Powell noted that the unemployment rate has been rising but has flattened out in recent months and remains low by historical standards. Specifically, he said the labor market is holding up well despite disappointing job growth in October largely that he attributed to storm damage in the Southeast and labor strikes. "The economy is not sending any signals that we need to be in a hurry to lower rates," Powell said in remarks for a speech to business leaders in Dallas. Powell added that the calculus of getting the move to neutral rate will be tricky. The Fed also has been allowing proceeds from its bond holdings to roll off its mammoth balance sheet each month.

And far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who also holds a position in the Defense Ministry, has said Israel “will rule (in Gaza). Finding ways to attract consumers to buy packaged goods stretches back to the 1920s when American psychologist Daniel Starch created the world's first market research study. Founded in Singapore in 2018, the startup provides AI-powered market research with real-time predictive analytics. Rival firms include ZoomInfo Sales, Trajaan and Brandwatch Consumer Intelligence, all of which deploy a variety of technology to comb through consumer data and marketing trends. London CNN —King Charles III has marked his 76th birthday on Thursday by opening two food distribution hubs, as part of his Coronation Food Project that he launched a year ago in the hopes of bridging the gap between food poverty and food waste. Charles visited one of the new hubs in south London, which is hosting a “surplus food festival” where meals will be made using food that might otherwise have gone to waste. Since it was launched, the food project has worked with local charities FareShare and the Felix Project, and saved 940 tons of surplus food - the equivalent of 2.2 million meals. Charles speaks with staff at the new distribution center, designed to save and circulate surplus food and to support communities in need. King Charles treats his actual birthday in November like a normal working day, but the bonus of being the monarch means that he actually gets two.

CNN —President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk have big ambitions for making the federal government leaner and more efficient by reviewing its budget and operations from top to bottom. Details about how the new Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, will operate – and how Musk and his co-leader Vivek Ramaswamy will avoid conflicts of interest – remain scarce. Musk also took aim at the Department of Education, a frequent target of Trump and Republicans, criticizing the agency for allegedly indoctrinating kids with left-wing propaganda and other failings. Slashing that much from the federal budget – which totaled roughly $6.8 trillion in fiscal 2024 – would require cutting every program by roughly one-third, said Bobby Kogan, senior director of federal budget policy at the left-leaning Center for American Progress. “Trump’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ will not be an actual department.
