That means buying cheaper tickets with a layover in their actual destination city instead of a direct flight. This only works because air fares violate the "triangle inequality," one of the basic laws of geometry. One of the most basic laws of geometry is something called the "triangle inequality." But that clearly is not always the case, and that violation of the triangle inequality is what makes skiplagging possible. If airlines want to fight skiplagging, a good first start would be making airfares into a geometrically-accurate metric.

Private jets are already arriving in Sun Valley, Idaho ahead of the "summer camp for billionaires." Private jets have already begun piling up outside of small town Sun Valley, Idaho as some of the world's most powerful people head to Allen & Co's annual conference — also known as "summer camp for billionaires." Since Tuesday morning, over 40 private jets have flown through the nearby Friedman Memorial Airport ahead of the conference, with at least another 100 scheduled to arrive throughout the day, according to FlightAware. In 2021, the airport was so swamped with private jets that the FAA had to delay incoming flights until traffic dropped. In addition, moderate turbulence jumped from 70.0 to 96.1 hours, while light turbulence hit 546.8 hours, up from 466.5. "[This] doesn't necessarily mean planes are encountering turbulence, clear air turbulence, 55% more often because, of course, planes try and avoid it and they've been getting very good at avoiding it," he said. "Although the radar on the flight deck can't see … clear air turbulence, there's a related technology called LIDAR that stands for light detection and ranging," Williams said. "By using that different wavelength of light, we can see invisible clear air turbulence ahead," he said. "Unfortunately it's very expensive and also comes in a big heavy box, which you don't want really to go on a plane to add weight onto the aircraft," Williams said.

CNN —Wall Street bankers, investors and economists have for months waffled over whether a US recession is coming. But for some Americans, the unforgiving economic pain typical during recession has already set in. Consumer spending accounts for about two-thirds of economic output, so if more Americans are forced to cut back because they were laid off, that might throw the US economy into a recession. Bank of America Chief Executive Brian Moynihan told CNN last week that he expects a mild recession early next year, rather than the late 2022 recession many have predicted. That means that laid-off Americans were often able to find a new job quickly due to a hot job market.

Navigating air travel at this time of year can be fraught, but it doesn’t have to be – and if anyone’s got intel on smoothly and successfully surviving summer travel, it’s the flight attendants who’ve seen it all. But the flight attendants say the lost sleep is worth it in the long run. Andrew adds that this advice is especially crucial if you’re flying internationally, suggesting that whatever you consider a “normal” connection time, you should probably double if you’re flying long haul. London CNN —India’s stock market is booming as investors take a chance on one of the few bright spots in a fragile global economy. The country’s stocks are so hot that India is now home to the world’s fourth most valuable equity market, behind only the United States, China and Japan. Meal vouchers will be sent for delays of three hours or more and hotel vouchers for overnight delays. On Thursday, United Airlines said that it will start sending meal and hotel vouchers via phone to passengers whose flights have been disrupted. Disruptions include issues pertaining to maintenance or technology— or what United spokesperson Amy Fisher called "controllable" delays— which means weather related issues don't count. Flights for those with overnight delays will be rebooked for the next day, she added. "We've been automatically rebooking customers and providing meal and hotel vouchers for years," Fisher said.

WASHINGTON, June 16 (Reuters) - U.S. rights groups plan protests next week against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Washington over what they call India's deteriorating human rights record, even though experts do not expect Washington to be publicly critical of New Delhi. Washington hopes for closer ties with the world's largest democracy, which it sees as a counterweight to China, but rights advocates worry that geopolitics will overshadow human rights issues. The United States has said its human rights concerns related to India include the Indian government's targeting of religious minorities, dissidents and journalists. In a letter to Biden, Human Rights Watch's Asia Division director Elaine Pearson urged the White House to raise concerns, both publicly and privately, about human rights in India during Modi's visit. Advocacy groups have also raised concerns over alleged human rights abuses under Modi's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Policies around plus-size travelers tend to vary from airline to airline. A travel expert said that "skiplagging" didn't guarantee travelers would save money on flights. The travel hack known as "skiplagging", or "hidden city" ticketing, doesn't guarantee that you'll save money on your airfare, according to a travel expert. But Gilbert Ott, the founder of travel site God Save The Points, warned that skiplagging can save money, but depended on your departure point and final destination, he told Insider. American Airlines, United Airlines, and Lufthansa are among a growing list of carriers taking action to combat the practice. United Airlines and travel site Orbitz also tried to sue Aktarer Zaman, the CEO of travel site Skiplagged, in 2014, accusing him of "unfair competition" and "deceptive behavior."
