The lawsuits said that several New Balance athletic shoes and Skechers sneakers misuse Nike's patented "Flyknit" technology for running, soccer and basketball shoes. Nike has previously sued Adidas (ADSGn.DE), Puma (PUMG.DE) and Lululemon (LULU.O) for infringing Flyknit patents. Representatives for Nike, New Balance and Skechers did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the Monday lawsuits. Nike sued Manhattan Beach, California-based Skechers in Los Angeles, claiming that shoes, including Skechers' Ultra Flex and Glide Step brands, infringed on its patents. Nike asked the courts for an unspecified amount of money damages and court orders permanently blocking New Balance and Skechers from infringing the patents.

Jared Cohen: If you reflect back on most of the last 20 years, the geopolitical center of gravity has been in the Middle East. But there’s a paradigmatic shift where the geopolitical center of gravity has moved from the Middle East to Washington and Beijing. That’s before you get into other factors like the war in Europe, now, the war in the Middle East and a variety of other things. I don’t think that’s the case. Leaders in the Middle East have a big vision of their role in the world.

US Senator Schumer urges FTC to probe Exxon, Chevron mega-deals

Earlier this month, Exxon proposed to buy Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD.N) for $60 billion and Chevron agreed to acquire Hess (HES.N) for $53 billion. The Democratic Senate leader said in a letter that the two of the largest oil and gas deals of this century are "likely to harm competition." Chevron and Exxon have accumulated huge profits from strong energy prices and demand since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The oil industry last went through an era of major consolidation in the late 1990s when Exxon, Shell (SHEL.L), BP (BP.L) and France's TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) merged with rivals to create huge integrated companies. The acquisitions followed a collapse in oil prices that weakened many companies.

Concerns of a global electric vehicle market meltdown are starting to take hold, raising concern over the prospects of certain companies in the space, according to Deutsche Bank. U.S. playbook Deutsche Bank analysts have "limited interest in legacy OEMs, even on pullback and post-strike." The bank also gave its picks for U.S. electric vehicle suppliers, favoring agnostic powertrain suppliers with growth and content, mostly independent electric vehicle and internal combustion engine volumes. Automotive supplier BorgWarner could also benefit from the current electric vehicle environment due to its primary exposure in the Chinese market, he added. A "slower electric vehicle adoption curve" could also help the company's margins, the analyst added.

Morgan Stanley’s (MS.N) investment banking revenue in the third quarter was its worst since 2009, at just over $1 billion. The rapid rise in interest rates, which makes traditional lending more lucrative for so-called universal banks, adds to the glum aura around investment banking. Reuters Graphics Reuters GraphicsInvestment banking isn’t the biggest part of any bulge-bracket firm’s revenue, but it’s disproportionately profitable. Goldman made nearly $8 billion more from investment banking in 2021 than in the last four quarters. Declining volatility in markets is great for deals, but it’s nowhere near as good for banks’ trading desks, which tend to thrive on choppy conditions.

New York CNN —An age-old investing strategy is losing its shine, but investors aren’t ready to cast it aside. Common wisdom suggests that when investors are fearful, stock prices tend to fall, and bond prices rise as people seek safer investments. When yields rise, bond prices fall, and Treasuries have been sinking in recent months. Those are characteristics of the perfect storm that sent the 60-40 portfolio nosediving in 2022. The 60-40 portfolio shed roughly 17% last year, its worst performance since 2008, according to data from Vanguard.

The integration of the Shopify Logistics team into Flexport had been rocky, five employees said. When Shopify completed its acquisition of Deliverr in July 2022, employees' equity converted to Shopify stock on a one-to-one basis. This person added that the conversion from public stock to RSUs meant that the value of their Flexport equity was less than they expected.
