The stock market's leaders are overvalued and could suffer a big correction, RBA's Richard Bernstein said. The RBA chief investment officer pointed to a discrepancy between the debt and equity markets, which could hint at a soon-to-come market correction. But, only a narrow group of stocks are dominating the equity market, which implies profits aren't expanding for most companies. While large-cap stocks tanked during the lost decade of the 2000s, small-cap, energy, and emerging market stocks did exceedingly well. In a previous note, he said the stock market's shifting leadership from the most-hyped names to underloved equities presents once-in-a-generation opportunity for investors.

Stock futures oscillated near the flatline Tuesday night as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and May's consumer inflation data. S&P 500 futures inched lower by 0.01%, while Nasdaq 100 futures were little changed. During Tuesday's trading, investors' rotation into Apple helped lift the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite to fresh closing highs. Investors are looking to Wednesday's conclusion of the Fed's two-day policy meeting, which will feature an rate policy decision and a subsequent press conference with Fed Chair Jerome Powell. Investors have grown increasingly concerned that the recent strong jobs report and sticky inflation support a higher-for-longer interest rate environment.

Cuban started the practice after selling his first company, a software firm called MicroSolutions, for $6 million to CompuServe in 1990. He took 20% of the total sale price, he tells CNBC Make It, and paid it out to 80 employees — which would equate to $15,000 per staffer, if distributed equally. "It was f---ed up," Cuban told Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" podcast in 2020. The business bounced back, and Cuban sold MicroSolutions five years later, making him a millionaire. Falling yields and continuing excitement for AI could boost the S&P 500 to 6,500, the firm said. "This expectation that AI hype will increase and that Treasury yields will fall underpins our long-standing forecast for the S&p 500 to hit 6,500 by end-2025." But narrow stock market rallies have the potential to last years, Rielly said, suggesting the stock market run-up could continue for now. Warnings of a market bubble have proliferated as the S&P 500 notched a series of record-highs this year. Capital Economics has also warned of a stock market correction akin to the 1929 and dot-com crashes, which could begin in early 2026.

North Korea said its attempt to launch a new military reconnaissance satellite ended in failure on Monday when a newly developed rocket engine exploded in flight. North Korea fired the projectile on a southern path off its west coast at around 10:44 p.m. (1344 GMT), the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. The launch appeared to originate from Dongchang-ri, a northwestern area of the country where North Korea's main space flight centre is based, JCS said. Japan said over its J-Alert broadcasting system that North Korea appeared to have fired a missile, sending out the warning to residents in southern prefecture of Okinawa.

Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood believes stocks are ready to spring upward with easing price pressures and lower interest rates on the horizon. "In the fourth quarter, as the Fed's dot plot began pointing to much lower interest rates, the bull market in equities broadened dramatically," Wood said in an X post on Thursday evening. In our view, more price deflation and lower interest rates will activate coiled equities." She said investors have been flocking to safe havens and cash at a dramatic pace last seen during the 1930s.
