Washington CNN —The United States that Donald Trump describes in his rally speeches would be pretty bad if it actually existed. For the third consecutive presidential election, the Republican presidential nominee is running a relentlessly dishonest campaign for the world’s most powerful office. President Joe Biden, Trump’s initial opponent in this election, and Harris, Trump’s current opponent, certainly don’t. Nine years into Trump’s political career, daily fact-checking still isn’t happening enough. No matter what CNN writes, no matter how many “Pinocchios” The Washington Post awards him, he knows that far more of his supporters will hear the uncorrected false claim – through social media, pro-Trump media outlets and, yes, even many mainstream media outlets – than hear the truth.

In any other month, the finishing touch would be a clean reading on the labor market from the official jobs report. However, a common thread among economists is that the strikes and hurricanes could take a 100,000-job bite out of the October jobs report. The last time there were back-to-back major hurricanes — Harvey and Irma in 2017 — the forecasts for the following month’s jobs report were for a loss of 33,000 positions. And each contribute to two of the biggest numbers in the monthly jobs report. A key date to keep in mind for the jobs report is October 12, as it anchors the “reference period” for both surveys.

Kamala Harris’ deployment of prominent Republican Trump critics hasn’t convinced a new focus group of voters who backed Nikki Haley in the GOP presidential primary. “It’s repulsive,” said Dale J., a 67-year-old from Minnesota who voted for Trump in 2020 and plans to do so again. "I really liked the idea that Nikki Haley was a woman, and I thought she would have more closer values to mine than Trump. (One of these voters is a registered Democrat who voted in her state’s open presidential primary for Haley.) Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued an El Paso doctor on Tuesday, accusing him of providing transition-related medical care to nearly two dozen minors in violation of state law. Texas enacted a law, Senate Bill 14, last year banning gender-affirming care for anyone under 18. Laws restricting access to transition-related care for minors exist in 26 states, according to the Movement Advancement Project, an LGBTQ think tank. The Texas lawsuits come just ahead of the presidential election, where transition-related care has become somewhat of a flashpoint. Washington CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday distanced herself from President Joe Biden’s comments that seemingly referred to Donald Trump’s supporters as “garbage,” setting off a political firestorm a week before Election Day. “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden said, pausing for a moment before continuing. Harris’ campaign was quick to try to publicly defend or explain those remarks publicly. As CNN has reported, there had been growing wariness among Harris campaign aides about Biden’s propensity for gaffes, at a moment when the campaign does not want to take any unnecessary political risks. Tuesday night’s “garbage” comments from Biden only ended up confirming those existing concerns for many Democrats.

Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group’s share price plunged about 20% on Wednesday afternoon. If Trump Media finishes with a loss of more than 21%, it would qualify as its worst one-day loss since going public in March. Trump Media did not release any major news that would explain the nosedive. Trump Media’s stock has been extraordinarily volatile all year.

Not only was it was brilliantly crafted, she radiated confidence in her delivery. She looked like a winner, and politicians who look like winners strike chords with American voters and usually win. Ahead of Donald Trump’s Tuesday appearance in the heavily Latino city of Allentown, Pennsylvania, a comedian’s racist joke about Puerto Ricans at the former president’s Madison Square Garden rally drew fresh blowback. “However, the other five million who live in the United States, whom they also labeled as trash, can vote.”One of those five million Puerto Rican voters is Allentown resident Efraín Dávila. Hinchcliffe made his racist jokes in an election cycle in which Republicans have said they are messaging to Latinos as Americans. But the comedian at his rally attacked Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens at birth, not immigrants, said Mike Madrid, a Republican consultant who opposes Trump. Madrid added that it is more difficult to waive off the comedian’s racist jokes, because they did not come from Trump.

Former President Donald Trump’s promises that he’ll win New York are more empty bluster than evidence-based prediction. Two statewide Siena polls have also shown Trump performing better than his 2020 vote share in New York State as a whole. But overall, these races include the most competitive around New York State, and all but the 18th are currently represented in Congress by a Republican. Democrats are not concerned about the top of the ticket, but for those down ballot — where Democrats lost five competitive House races here in 2022 — this election is a chance to earn back what was once theirs. “Progressive state issues like bail reform and congestion pricing remain challenging for Democrats in the New York suburbs,” longtime New York Republican operative Matt Coleman said.
